Shakamak All-star games

The Shakamak Youth League will have baseball and softball All-star games coming up.

There will be an 8U softball All-star tournament on July 3-5. This is a coach pitch team.

Cost is $200 per team. Two game pool play to seed teams with a double elimination tournament to follow.

Awards will go to 1st and 2nd place teams.

Tournament is open to only recreation All-star teams, no travel teams will be allowed. For more information contact Haven Wonders at 812-562-0532.

There will be an 8U and 10U baseball All-Star tournament on July 17-19. The 8U will be coach pitch.

Cal Ripken rules will apply for both tournaments.

Entry fee will be $200 for each tournament and double elimination format will be used.

Awards will be for 1st and 2nd place teams.

All-Star teams are limited to only recreation league teams, no travel teams will be allowed.

Bloomfield AD resigns

Bloomfield High School's athletic director Monica Abernathy has resigned after just one year on the job.

Abernathy confirmed her resignation Monday afternoon via text message.

The resignation will become official Thursday night when the Bloomfield School District Board meets.

The latest hire will be the fourth AD in the past four school years, following Andy Ross, Rick Hudson and Abernathy.

Greene County Open

The annual Greene County Open golf tournament is set for July 11-12 at the Phil Harris Golf Course in Linton.

Players can make their own tee times on Saturday. Golfers will be flighted after the first 18 holes.

Play on Sunday will begin at noon.

Cost is $15 plus green fees and cart.

Guy Glover Scholarship Tournament

The annual Guy Glover Scholarship golf tournament has been scheduled for Saturday, June 27 at the Phil Harris Golf Course in Linton.

This scholarship fund memorializes former Bloomfield teacher and coach Guy Glover and his wife Martha.

Since the fund was established in 1992, 34 Bloomfield High School graduates have received scholarships. The first were $500, but are now $1,000. To date, $36,000 in scholarships have been awarded.

Nick Skinner, treasurer of the Guy Glover Scholarship Committee, is searching for people and businesses that are looking to make a donation in the following categories: Hole sponsor, cash prize or gift.

Shakamak awards program

The Shakamak High School spring sports awards program has been scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, June 25 in the cafeteria.

High School athletes that participated in baseball, softball, boys and girls track and golf will be honored.

Bloomfield Church Softball

The Bloomfield Church Softball League is again looking for teams to start play in August.

Deadline for entering is Friday, July 24.

Linton girls cross country

Linton-Stockton High School girls cross country coach David Wence would like to invite any girls in incoming grades 9-12 to participate in summer workouts.

Girls volleyball camp

starts in July

The Bloomfield High School volleyball program will be hosting youth volleyball camps in July.

The dates are July 6-10 and July 13-17.

Girls in incoming grades 3-4 will convene each day from noon to 1 p.m. at Glover Gymnasium.

The girls in incoming grades 5-6 will meet each day from 1 to 2 p.m.

The camp for girls in incoming grades 7-8 will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. each day.

Bass fishing tournaments

Shakamak State Park will once again by having bass fishing tournament throughout the spring and summer that are open team jackpots and open to the public.

The next tournament is set for 7 p.m. to midnight, Friday, June 26.

Registration at Kickapoo ramp is set for 6:45 p.m.

There also will be tournaments on Fridays July 10, July 31, Aug. 14 and Sept. 4. All of these events are set for 7 p.m. to midnight with registration at 6:45 p.m.

The final tournament of the season will be Saturday, Sept. 26 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration, again at Kickapoo ramp, will be at 7:45 a.m.
