Linton resident Larry Massa will sign his books, "Catacombs" and "Armageddon Now" from 1 - 3 p.m. Saturday at The Shepherd's Love Book Store -- which is located at 340 NW A St. in Linton. Massa will also offer chances to win a "National Treasure" DVD starring Nicolas Cage.

LSHS Band and Miner Kadet Concessions at the Band Stand

The LSHS Band Stand will be open Monday, June 29 - Saturday, July 4 from 11 a.m. - midnight. The menu includes sandwiches (Jonah fish, hamburgers, breaded tenderloins and sloppy Joes), hot dogs, coney dogs as well as French fries, cheese fries, chili cheese fries, cheese nachos and super nachos. Soft drinks, brownies and cookies will also be available. Proceeds will benefit the band and Miner Kadet programs.

Greene County Tourism group

The Greene County Tourism group will meet July 9 from 5-6 p.m. at the Utilities District of Western Indiana REMC building on State Road 54 (across from Hunter's Inn and next to the White River bridge near Bloomfield). Future meetings have been tentatively scheduled for Aug. 6 from 5-6 p.m. (Linton Public Library); Sept. 3, 5-6 p.m. (Worthington Public Library); Oct. 1, 5-6 p.m. (Linton Public Library); Nov. 5, 5-6 p.m. (Bloomfield Public Library); Dec. 3, 5-6 p.m. (Linton Public Library).

Newberry Little Mister, Little Miss

The Newberry Little Mister and Little Miss Contest is scheduled for Aug. 22. A child can enter if he/she is 3-5 years by Aug. 22, 2009. Your child will collect a penny a vote starting the month of July. The money will be donated to the Riley Children's Hospital. Book sale

The Friends of the Library continuing book sale will be from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. on June 25 in the lower lobby of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library, 125 S. Franklin St., Bloomfield. A large selection of adult and children's books are available.

Greene County Historical Society

The Greene County Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Grove Farms -- located on County Road 300 South and 1065 West, south of Linton. Speakers will be Sam Cline and Brad Feaster who will discuss the Goose Pond. Fiosh and Wildlife Area.

Bloomfield Class of 1964

Puckett to entertain at Freedom Festival

Local guitarist Kade Puckett will offer a free musical performance at 7 p.m. Saturday at Humphreys Park in Linton.

A.M. Risher Pool fundraiser

A water volleyball tournament and dance will be at the A.M. Risher Memorial Pool in Linton on July 31. Volleyball starts at 6 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the pool -- which is in need of repairs. Donations are currently being accepted at the pool.

Goose Pond photo contest

Friends of Goose Pond, a non-profit organization, is sponsoring a calendar photo contest featuring photos shot at Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area within the past year. Suggested photo subjects include landscapes, seasons, activities, flora and fauna. The contest is open to photographers of all ages. Mowery reunion set for July 11

The annual Mowery reunion will be July 11 from noon to 5 p.m. at the New Community Building at the Dugger Park in Dugger. A covered dish lunch will be served at noon. Table service will be provided.

Greene County Solid Waste District's mobile recycling trailer will be in Jasonville today through June 24.

Memory Makers Quilt Guild

The Memory Makers Quilt Guild of Greene County will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Library located at 125 S. Franklin St. in Bloomfield. Viola Hall will be the hostess. Items to be discussed include nominations of officers for the new guild year -- which starts in September.

Tasting luncheon

The First Presbyterian Church in Bloomfield will host its annual tasting luncheon from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Friday. The menu will include several meat, vegetable, salad and dessert items. Cost is $6 for adults and $1 for children under 6 years of age. Carryout and delivery will be available. The church is located at 401 Shyla Lane in Bloomfield.

Kids Count Preschool

On Thursday, Lyons Health and Living Center will offer fireworks at dusk and at 7:30 p.m. Homemade ice cream and cobbler will be served.

Bingo at American Legion

Linton American Legion Post 22 will host bingo on Wednesday and Friday nights. Doors open at 5 p.m. and bingo starts at 6:30 p.m.

White River Baptist Church VBS

White River Baptist Church will host Vacation Bible School from 6-8:15 p.m. on June 22-26. The church is located on State Road 57 just south of State Road 54.

LHS class of 1964

Newberry Festival meeting

There will be a Newberry Festival meeting on June 29 at the Newberry United Methodist Church basement. This year there will be something new at the festival: A car show and everyone is invited to come check it out. The festival is slated for Aug. 21- 22. Vendors and parade entries and still needed. Classic Car Cruise-In

Blessed Hope events

On Friday, Blessed Hope Baptist Church will have Missionary Bryan Johnson and his wife, Rebekah. Bro. Johnson is a missionary to Brazil, South America. They are home for a short time and will be at the 7 p.m. service, to give us a report and an update on their work in Brazil.

2009 Black Creek Festival

The Greene County Fair Little Miss and Mister and Baby Contest Applications will be available next week at the office at the fairgrounds. The applications are due by 8 p.m. on July 11. The Baby Contest will be July 13 at 6 p.m. in the Commercial Building. The Little Miss and Mister contest will be July 14 at 6 p.m. in the Commercial Building.

Linton Library summer hours

The Linton Public Library has begun observing its summer hours. During the week, the doors close at 6 p.m. except for programs scheduled after hours. Friday (9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.) and Saturday (9:30 a.m.- 3 p.m.) times remain the same. These hours will be followed until Sept. 8.

LSHS class of 1979

The Linton-Stockton class of 1979 will celebrate its 30th year class reunion with dinner and live music July 3 at the Old Bank in Linton. Summer camp

Worthington Assembly of God is offering Kids Day Camp this summer for the months of June and July for children preschool through fifth grade. Camp days will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 - noon. Cost is $80 a month with a $10 registration fee. Camp will consist of weekly crafts, daily games and movies and story times, bus trips to the park.

Vacation Bible School

Worthington Assembly of God will host a Vacation Bible School on June 22-26 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. for ages preschool to sixth grade. Crafts, snacks, games and lessons daily. Diagnostic Screening Echocardiograms

The Care Group, cardiologists from Indianapolis, and Greene County General Hospital will offer free screening Echocardiograms to local incoming freshman or any other high school students in the county and Dugger that has not received one in the past. This diagnostic test is to help detect cardiac problems that may go unnoticed and will be from 3 - 7 p.m. today on the second floor of the hospital in Linton. Consent forms are required and can be picked up at the Greene County Daily World in Linton, Greene County Ambulance service in Bloomfield or the hospital's administration office in Linton. Students must have this completed, signed and with them prior to the exam or their parent must accompany them.

Shakamak class of 1967 to meet

The 1967 Shakamak High School graduates should mark Sept. 25 on their calendars as a 60th birthday celebration is planned.
