The Newberry Progressive Club met for a May Tea in Barbara Musselman's beautiful backyard garden and pool area.

President Connie Huffine welcomed 18 members, two associate members and nine guests, noting that this was the last meeting for the 2008-09 year.

She remarked how nice everyone looked dressed and hatted for tea in the garden and read a poem, "Cup of Tea" to open.

Everyone was then asked to introduce their guests. The following answered roll call by naming their favorite tea; Faryl Armstrong, Becky Arthur, Linda Bredeweg, Dianna Brookshire (guest: Casey Baker, granddaughter), Jan Cable, Marsha Cline, Deborah Davis, Debbie Fish, Janet Hasler, Connie Huffine (guest: Norma Zigler, mother), JoEllen Laughlin (guest: Tonya Byrd, daughter), Charlene Mullis (guest: Lucy Allen, granddaughter), Angel Musselman (guest: Morgan Musselman, daughter), Barbara Musselman, Della Pickett, Kim Pickett, Claire Records (guests: Emma And Katherine Records, daughters), Sharon Schneider (guest: Sydney Brown, granddaughter), Marilyn Steward, Martha Ann Wesner (guest: Julie Baker, granddaughter).

Sharon Schneider reported on the flower pots that were placed along Highway 57 in Newberry and in front of Town Hall and club members were thanked for helping plant the flowers. Plans were made to maintain the planters through the summer and fall.

The hostesses entertained with tea stories. Angel Musselman read "Tea Time with Daddy", Becky Arthur read "Something to Think About: Friends" and "Let's Become Old Ladies Together", Barbara Musselman read "This Is Why God Made Mothers:, humorous items written by second graders.

A purse auction was held to benefit the club's treasury. All sizes, ages and styles of purses with themes of beauty items, gardening, shopping, etc., were purchased by members. Following was a musical-chairs type plant exchange.

Members recited the Club Collect and Prayer for Our Nation to close.
