Linton Softball Coach Jill Flater and her team captains get instructions from the umpires prior to the start of Friday night's semi-final Class 2 state tourney game in Indianapolis.

INDIANAPOLIS -- As close as the Lady Miners softball team is to a Class 2A softball state championship, Linton-Stockton senior Izzy Carpenter knows there is still work to be done.

"We will celebrate this for a little bit tonight, but we will try to get to bed early and get focused and get ready for tommorrow," said Carpenter after scoring a run and coming up with seven putouts at first base in a 5-2 victory over Wheeler here at North Central High School Friday night . "Tonight's win was great but we know the important game is tomorrow."

The Lady Miners, who improved to 21-5 and had Wheeler just its third loss in 30, will play at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Indianapolis Ben Davis against the winner of Indy Scecina and Madiso-Grant, who were still playing in the second semifinal at deadline.

"I am so excited that I can barely speak," said one of the Lady Miner quad captains. "Again we just did whatever it took to win."

Carpenter survived a collision at first base when she was run over by Lady Bearcat catcher Caitlin Herzog.

Carpenter hug on for the third out in the fifth inning after Wheeler had scored two run and had two runners left on base.

"It was just one of those bang, bang plays," said Carpenter. "I might have beeen leaning in the base line a little and the girl just ran over me.

"I only hurt for a little bit. I was able to hold on to the ball and we got out of the inning with a three run lead."

Carpenter was part of the five-run fifth by the Lady Miners, which propelled them into the title game.

"We one girl got a hit the next one followed with another hit," she said. "We were able to some timely hit when we got runners on base.

"When everyone starts hitting things get a little bit contageous. It is great to be in the middle of something like that."

Carpenter watched junior pitch Stephanie Fougerousse overcome severe back pain to earn the win inside the circle

"Steph has done this all year," she said. "She really battled and was in so much pain that she was in tears at times.

"But she was able to shut them down in the sixth and seventh We just told her that we had her back."

So proud of all of you girls......just came 21 years too late for me...but I can live vicariously through girls I have coached, even though I am just a summer league coach who doesn't know what I am doing.

All my girls, Ashley, Brooke, Dani, Marisa, and Tiffany, you have contributed to the team...be proud of who you are!

Response by TRAVIS DAVID:
I believe someone else replied earlier this week that if you are not happy with the ruling on miss fougerousse then you need to take it up with the higher authorities and leave your negative comments off of here and not try and ruin such a special moment for not only the entire softball team but the entire school and community.

congrats to miss fougerousse and the entire lady miner softball team!

BloomburgBanter, I find amazement with how hateful and vendictive people like you can take a wonderful accomplishment made by young adults and make it seem like it is useless. No other human can judge another, you have not walked the paths they have to get where they are. The whole team deserves congratulations! They do not deserve nor have they asked for snide remarks! They are a team playing as a team to get this far and deserve the excitement and thrill of the moment. I will end by saying CONGRATULATIONS to ALL Lady Miner Softball players!! Be proud of who you are and what you stand for! Good luck in the state game, you CAN do it!!

great job lady miners,it is a shame that we dont have a local radio station to broadcast it. I will remember this when 93.3 comes in for an ad on their station. I think they should make some adjustments and broadcast the game, this is the best thing that has happened to Linton in a long time. Lets get some blogs going in favor of this. You fellow linton merchants should be putting some pressure on them immediately,im going to contact them now. Again go Lady Miners, take that state.

That website should take you to the webcast. I watched the track state finals from there. Sometimes it can get a bit blurry but its better than nothing...
