Master Mason degrees at Jasonville

Carpenter reunion

The descendants of Elijah and Mandy Carpenter family reunion will be at noon Saturday at the Paul Rifner residence. For directions call 384-8337.

Patriotic/Gospel music

The First Church of God in Linton will hold a patriotic/gospel music concert featuring Linda Weyer at 3 p.m. June 14. The church is located on State Road 54 East across from the Elks Club. The public is welcome to this free event.

Lyons Community VBS

Lyons Community Vacation Bible School will be held from 9 - 11 :30 a.m. June 15-19 at Lyons First Christian Church.

Kids Count Preschool

Kids Count Preschool is now enrolling students for the 2009-2010 school year. The school offers morning and afternoon classes for children ages 3-5. Classes start in August. The school is located on the Eastern Greene Elementary/Middle School campus. For more information please call 825-5100.

Fireworks

On June 25, Lyons Health and Living Center will offer fireworks at dusk and at 7:30 p.m. The Bullet Radio station will be on hand. Homemade ice cream and cobbler will be served.

Greene County Veterans Council

The Greene County Veterans Council will conduct its annual Flag Retirement Ceremony at 8:30 p.m. Saturday on the square in Bloomfield. In case of rain, shelter will be available at the American Legion. Everyone is invited to come and see the proper way to dispose of the American flag.

WRV Benefit

A hog roast benefit for the White River Valley 7th grade basketball team will be at noon June 20 at the Worthington VFW. The team is raising money to play in the nationals in Tampa, Fla.

Greene County Bash this Saturday

Abate of Indiana is sponsoring the annual Greene County Bash on Saturday at American Legion Park on County Road 200N, near Linton. A fun/educational ride will staged with registration from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Cost is $10 per person or $15 per couple. Children under 13 are free. A kid's rodeo featuring contests and games will be conducted along with a bike rodeo with motorcycle contests. Music will be provided by Silverado. Food vendors will be on site and primitive camping is available. Childcare will be offered after dark. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Greene County Head Start Christmas Programs, ABATE of Indiana and Hope House in Bloomfield. For more information call 384-8721.

Bingo at American Legion

Linton American Legion Post 22 will host bingo on Wednesday and Friday nights. Doors open at 5 p.m. and bingo starts at 6:30 p.m.

White River Baptist Church VBS

White River Baptist Church will hold Vacation Bible School from 6 - 8:15 p.m. June 22-26. The church is located on State Road 57 just south of State Road 54.

Linton Moose

Linton Moose will have steak, pork chop and shrimp dinner at 5 p.m. today. Public is invited.

Linton-Stockton School Board

The Linton-Stockton School Board of Trustees will meet in executive session at 6 p.m. and in regular session at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the administration building.

LHS class of 1964

Newberry Festival meeting

There will be a Newberry Festival meeting on June 29 at the Newberry United Methodist Church basement. This year there will be something new at the festival Car Show and everyone is invited to come check it out. The festival is slated for Aug. 21- 22. Vendors and parade entries and still needed. Scotland yard sale breakfast

The Scotland United Methodist Church will serve breakfast from 7 a.m. - 10 a.m. Saturday in the community room at the fire station in Scotland. Proceeds from this event will be donated to the families of Nick Decker and Josh Merritt who were seriously burned in April. Nick passed away May 28 and Josh remains in critical condition at the hospital. The Scotland Community yard sales will also be held Saturday from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Recycling trailer at Little Cincinnati

The Greene County Recycling Center's mobile collection trailer will be at the Center Township Trustee's office at Little Cincinnati until Wednesday, June 17.

Switz City Yard Sales

The Switz City Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor the annual community-wide yard sales Saturday starting at 6 a.m. The SCVFD will serve biscuits and gravy for breakfast starting at 6 a.m. thzen burgers and hot-dogs starting at 10 a.m. and soft drinks at the fire station. To have a location added to the sale map, call Switz City Town Hall, 659-4466 before June 12.

Free Child Seat Safety Clinic

The Switz City Volunteer Fire Department will host a free child safety seat inspection clinic at their fire station from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday. The public is invited to have a certified child seat specialist to check their car seats to make sure they are installed correctly.

Chapel Fair set for Saturday

The Chapel Fair, sponsored by the Greene County Chapel United Methodist Church, is Saturday. A bake sale of homemade pies, cakes and other items will be at 9 a.m. Lunch will be served offering fish sandwiches, chili dogs, pus desserts. King, queen, standard baby quilts, plus craft items will be available for sale. Proceeds of the sale will be used for mission programs.

W-J alumni dinner

The Worthington-Jefferson High School alumni dinner and meeting is Saturday at the WRV-Worthington gym. The dinner will be at 6 p.m. with the meeting to follow. Please call or send reservations to Lori Henderson by Tuesday. She can be reached at 875-3593 after 4 p.m.

The Ashcraft family reunion is Sunday at the Odd Fellows Lodge north of Bloomfield. A carry-in lunch will begin at noon.

Bloomfield alumni to gather

The 42nd annual Bloomfield School Alumni Reunion will be in the BHS cafeteria Saturday. The dinner will be catered buffet style at 5:30 p.m. The 50-year class of 1959 and the 25-year class of 1984 will be honored. Come early and meet with your classmates before the dinner in one of the junior high rooms. They will be open beginning at 2:30 p.m. The class of 1959 will meet in the music room. Mineral UMC Vacation Bible School

Mineral United Methodist Church will host Vacation Bible School on June 14-17. A cook out will at 5:30 p.m. on June 14 to kick off the program. The VBS, with the theme "Where kids will build their lives on the rock: Jesus," will meet nightly from 6:30-8:30.

Local blood drive

Indiana Blood Center will host Fallen Officer Blood Drives in June as part of a statewide campaign in conjunction with Indiana State Police, city and county law enforcement agencies and Indiana State FOP. The blood drives offer Hoosiers an opportunity to honor the lives lost of those who serve and protect. The Indiana Blood Center blood drives are open to the public. Anyone over the age of 17, or 16 with a signed parental consent form, and weighing at least 110 pounds is invited to donate. The local blood drive will be at the Greene County Sheriff's Department on June 15 from 3-7 p.m.

Vacation Bible School

First Baptist Church of Linton will host a Vacation Bible School for children ages 5 to 10 on June 22-26 from 9 a.m. to noon. The theme is High Power Soccer Camp. For more information call 847-4816.

VBS at Providence Baptist

Classic Car Cruise-In

The Freedom Festival Classic Car Cruise-In will be June 27 from 1-5 p.m. at Humphreys Park. The $10 registration fee benefits Riley Children's Hospital and local charity activities.

Blessed Hope events

On June 21, every father will be honored during the 10:30 a.m. service. On June 26, Blessed Hope Baptist Church will have Missionary Bryan Johnson and his wife, Rebekah. Bro. Johnson is a missionary to Brazil, South America. They are home for a short time and will be at the 7 p.m. service, to give us a report and an update on their work in Brazil.

2009 Black Creek Festival

The Sandborn Lions Club is making plans for the 2009 Black Creek Festival -- which will be at the Sandborn Park. Spaces are available for craft and flea market vendors. Anyone interested in renting booth space should call Earl Meek at (812) 694-8901. More information will be available soon.

Extension Homemakers Achievement Day

Greene County Extension Homemakers Club Achievement Day is June 18 at the fairgrounds. Registration begins at 9 a.m., a brunch is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. and the program begins at 10 a.m. Guest speaker is Pam Kinnaman. A public style show is slated for 11:30 a.m. and is open to any county resident. Entry deadline is June 11 with judging at 6:30 p.m. on June 15. If you have questions call 659-2122.

Little Miss and Mister

The Greene County Fair Little Miss and Mister and Baby Contest Applications will be available next week at the office at the fairgrounds. The applications are due by 8 p.m. on July 11. The Baby Contest will be July 13 at 6 p.m. in the Commercial Building. The Little Miss and Mister contest will be July 14 at 6 p.m. in the Commercial Building.

Linton Library summer hours

The Linton Public Library has begun observing its summer hours. During the week, the doors close at 6 p.m. except for programs scheduled after hours. Friday (9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.) and Saturday (9:30 a.m.- 3 p.m.) times remain the same. These hours will be followed until Sept. 8.

Worthington electric customers

Worthington has announced that Duke Energy electric service will be turned off at midnight June 10 for approximately three to four hours while a repair is made to the 35,000-volt line coming into the town. Service is expected to be restored by 4 a.m. on June 11.

Clay City Pottery Festival

The Clay City Pottery Festival is Saturday and Sunday. Several events such as the Lions Club charcoal grilled chicken dinner, area yard sales, flea market, quilt show and more are scheduled throughout the annual two-day festival.

Fair Queen candidate sought

Candidates for the 2009 Miss Greene County Pageant are encouraged to fill out an entry form as soon as possible. The queen, who will reign over the Greene County Fair and compete in the Miss Indiana State Fair Pageant, will be crowned June 14 at the Greene County Fairgrounds. LSHS class of 1979

The Linton-Stockton class of 1979 will celebrate its 30th year class reunion with dinner and live music July 3 at the Old Bank in Linton. Switz City Central alumni golf outing

A golf outing for Switz City Central alumni, guests and friends will be Friday at Phil Harris Golf Course. This event is one day prior to the SCC alumni reunion on Saturday. The outing will start at 10 a.m. with the following rates: Nine holes $10, 18 holes $16, and a cart $14. Proceeds will help to find the SCC Alumni scholarship fund. Scotland Cemetery

The Scotland Cemetery Association will meet June 15. All memorial decorations on the ground should be removed by June 15 and all decorations in vases should be secured so as not to come out when the wind blows.

Summer camp

Worthington Assembly of God is offering Kids Day Camp this summer for the months of June and July for children preschool through fifth grade. Camp days will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 - noon. Cost is $80 a month with a $10 registration fee. Camp will consist of weekly crafts, daily games and movies and story times, bus trips to the park.

Vacation Bible School

Worthington Assembly of God will host a Vacation Bible School on June 22-26 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. for ages preschool to sixth grade. Crafts, snacks, games and lessons daily. Scotland community yard sales

Scotland's annual community yard sales will be from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday. Breakfast will be served from 7 - 10 a.m. in the community room of the fire station by the Scotland United Methodist Church. The Scotland Full Gospel Church will serve sandwiches, desserts and drinks in the Fellowship Hall throughout the day. A bake sale will be hosted by the Ladies Aide of Scotland United Methodist Church. Maps for the yard sale will be available at the fire station on June 13.

Diagnostic Screening Echocardiograms

The Care Group, cardiologists from Indianapolis, and Greene County General Hospital will offer free screening Echocardiograms to local incoming freshman or any other high school students in the county and Dugger that has not received one in the past. This diagnostic test is to help detect cardiac problems that may go unnoticed and will be from 3 - 7 p.m. on June 23 on the second floor of the hospital in Linton. Consent forms are required and can be picked up at the Greene County Daily World in Linton, Greene County Ambulance service in Bloomfield or the hospital's administration office in Linton. Students must have this completed, signed and with them prior to the exam or their parent must accompany them.

The Greene County Humane Society has a few Shop-A-Thon Coupon Books remaining from its fundraiser. Booklets are $44.95 or save $5 each when you buy two or more.

Shakamak class of 1967 to meet

The 1967 Shakamak High School graduates should mark Sept. 25 on their calendars as a 60th birthday celebration is planned. The catered dinner/party will be at Shakamak State Park's log cabin starting at 4 p.m. with dinner scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The cost of the dinner will be $9 per person. Spring clean-up for the Peavey Cemetery is under way. Wreaths and other such winter decorations need to be removed prior to this date. Memorial decorations that interfere with mowing should be removed prior to June 15.
