TRC to disband after 2009-10

The Board of Directors of the Tri River Athletic Conference officially voted at their spring conference Wednesday night to disband the conference at the conclusion of the 2009-2010 school year.

The decision to disband the Tri River Athletic Conference came about due to duplication of purpose and competition in the Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference (SWIAC) by a majority of conference membership.

Currently Shakamak, Linton-Stockton and Union (Dugger) are members of both conferences.

The conference in existence since the early 1970's, originally consisted of the following high schools: Clay City, Montezuma, Rosedale, Shakamak, State High, Staunton, and Van Buren and came to existence to stimulate a well-rounded athletic program, to promote better sportsmanship, and the general improvement of all inter-school relationships.

Current members of the conference include: Clay City, Eminence, Linton-Stockton, North Central, Shakamak, and Union (Dugger) High Schools.

I will miss the GloryDays of the once Great tri-river conference. At one time it was nothing for there to be 3 tri-river teams in the TerreHaute Basketball regional...

Where will Eminence and North Central go?

I believe North Central will join the SWIAC.

I think Eminence should join as well and then the SWIAC can split into two five team divisions.

Seems pretty logical for both Eminence and North Central to join up in the SWIAC. The SWIAC could actually put on East-West or North-South All-Star events in sports like baseball, softball, and basketball.

If Eminence looks elsewhere, then maybe North Knox, which is shrinking in size, could be asked to be the tenth school.
