UPDATED AT 11:15 A.M.: Jasonville teen incident ruled accidental

Friday, June 5, 2009

Officers from the Jasonville Police Department responded Thursday afternoon to the scene of an accident involving a 15-year-old male that received a puncture wound to the face or head area.

Assistant Police Chief James Gadberry said the boy was airlifted to Riley Children's Hospital. His injuries were not thought to be life-threatening and he was reported to be in stable condition.

The incident was ruled accidental following an investigation in which several witnesses were interviewed.

No further details about the accident are expected to be released.

Despite everything that happened before this, I just hope the boy is going to be okay! I am not sure what exactly happened but it's never good for anyone to be airlifted to a hospital.

It used to be if a person was airlifted to the hospital they were in imminent danger of immediate death. Now though the helicopter rescue teams are called for anything from a broken leg (ATV accident last year in W Terre Haute) to the cardiac patient who needs cardiac trauma care immediately.

Who will pay the $12,000 bill for this latest helicopter evacuation?

Never though i would hear someone complain that an ambulance was called too quick!! In an emergency situation, a lot of times air evac and/or lifeline are called before the ground crew can even make scene...sort of helps cut down on wait time if the patient is critical. Hopefully it never happens, but if it were you or your family in that situation, you would be more than happy to have them on scene!! I think the local ems teams along with the hospitals do an excellent job of getting people in and out and off to larger trauma centers or cardiac centers when they're needed!! The last thing you should worry about when it comes to possible life and/or death is how much is this gonna cost!! Is it worth it if it cost you your life?? Medical bills wouldn't be 1/10 of what they are if our hospitals and clinics were full of actual sick people! Might want to start looking at the real issue with medical bills and stop blaming the people for providing the service!! great job to onscene personnel for what you did and do on a daily basis...keep up the great work!! and thanks to air-evac and lifeline for providing our community with excellent patient care!! we greatly appreciate it!! good luck to the young man who was hurt in this accident also...wish you and your family the best during your recovery!

I have to agree with iNdePEnDeNt...thought. The story reads like this kid was impaled in the head. If it were my kid, I'd want the absolute fastest, best medical response available, cost be damned.

Hope he is okay!! Or on the road to being that way..

I don't know but it if it was my kid...I would not care what the cost as long as my child was okay! People need to get their priorities straight!
