L-S senior class was special for teacher

Monday, May 18, 2009

This class of graduating Linton-Stockton High School seniors holds a special place in my heart.

I spent my last two years at Linton-Stockton Elementary School teaching fourth grade and then fifth grade. Many of my kids from my fourth-grade class decided to be in my room when I was moved to fifth to teach. I couldn't have been happier.

These kids were simply the best group I could have taught my final years. They were a pleasure to spend each day with while we were all learning. The parents and grandparents of this particular group were just so supportive.

It was a good thing too. My class of kids studied a particular subject and then we experienced it. Parents and kids alike went with me to Dinky's, a Snow Box Derby on the Brown County slopes, rock climbing at the climbing gym in Bloomington, and ice skating at the Frank Southern Rink in Bloomington.

My parents chaperoned on Saturdays and helped transport all my kids to events. We shared stories and backgrounds and got to know each other well. We became much like an extended family.

I'll be forever grateful for this wondrous time in my teaching career. Now this terrific group of young people are on their way to new adventures and new learning.

Congratulations class of 2009. You made my last teaching years the best ever.

Good luck and may your futures be secure, happy, and full of exciting challenges.
