He was born June 23, 1936, in Linton, the son of John William and Marcille L. (Weitzel) York.
He retired from LTV Steele in East Chicago, where he worked as a machinist and was later retired as a door greeter at Wal-Mart, was a member of the Linton Church of Christ, was an avid bowler and the best fisherman.
Survivors include two daughters, Jennie Dutcher of Chesterton and Lisa (John) Akers of Valparaiso; a son, Wesley (Beth) York of Chesterton; nine grandchildren, Shawn, Mark, Tiffany, Erica, Mike, Marci, Matt, John and Brittany; four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Bruce, Summer and Shaelin; a brother, Eugene York of Lacrescenta, Calif.; two sisters, Marlene Scharber of Hopkins, Minn. and Marilyn Prichard of Portage; a special friend, Jane Head of Linton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ethel "Iona" (Oliver) York; and three brothers, George, William and Edward York.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, May 15, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton with Jerry Carmichael officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Thursda y and after 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
