The Greene County Recycling Center will host an environmental fair and customer appreciation day. The first-time event will be Saturday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and will include free giveaways, food, live music, and guest speakers. A toxic-free household cleaning seminar presented by IntegraTeam at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Musical entertainment provided by acoustical finger-style guitarist Kade Puckett from 11 - 11:45 a.m. and 1:30 - 2 p.m. Free hot dogs available at 11:30 a.m. Shane Smith, of REMC, will talk about renewable energy wind power at 12:30 p.m.An acoustic musical set will be provided by John Danner, Kevin Griffin and Ryan Irish from 3 - 4:30 p.m.The recycling center is located just south of the State Road 54/57 junction and a half mile west off of State Road 57.

Horse and Pony fundraiser Saturday

Greene County 4-H Horse and Pony Club will host a silent auction, a tack auction and soup supper Saturday at the 4-H Fairgrounds.

Donated items from local merchants that will be auctioned by Bill Rollins of Bloomfield include a big screen television, a horse and various horse tack. The soup supper starts at 4:30 p.m.The silent auction and tack auction starts at 6 p.m. The tack dealer is Wally McKinley

Classes at Community Learning Center

A Beginning Microsoft Word 07 class starts April 27 at the Community Learning Center at White River Valley High School. It will meet for four Mondays from 6-8:30 p.m.. Cost is $105. A Project Management class will meet starting April 23. You can learn to prioritize and handle multiple tasks. It will meet from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Cost is $75. Vincennes University has added a Speech course for the summer and a full line of Math courses including Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, and Trigonometry.

WRV to present Country Revue

The White River Valley High School Choir will present a Country Revue today at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. Tickets are $3 and includes drinks and desserts. Doors will open at 6:15.

Lyons Senior Center breakfast

A biscuit, gravy, egg, sausage and pancake breakfast will be held from 7 - 10 a.m. April 25 at the Lyons Senior Center. Orange juice, coffee and milk will also be served. Donations only. A bake sale will also be held in conjunction with the breakfast. Tickets for a 33 piece expression deluxe set of cookware will be on sale for $1 each or six for $5.

Memory Makers Quilt Guild

The Memory Makers Quilt Guild of Greene County will hold a quilt show May 1-2 in the community room of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Library -- which is located at 125 S. Franklin St. in Bloomfield. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

Work is set to begin on the Bloomfield downtown project this week starting at the sidewalk near the corner of Spring and Franklin Streets.

Diagnostic Screening Echocardiograms

The Care Group, cardiologists from Indianapolis, and Greene County General Hospital will offer "free" screening Echocardiograms to local incoming freshman or any other high school student in the county and Dugger that has not received one in the past. This diagnostic test is to help detect cardiac problems that may go unnoticed and will be from 3 - 7 p.m. June 23 on the second floor of the hospital in Linton. Consent forms are required and can be picked up at the Greene County Daily World in Linton, Greene County Ambulance service in Bloomfield or the hospital's administration office in Linton. Students must have this completed, signed and with them prior to the exam or their parent must accompany them.

Flower and Patio Show April 25-26

The Fifth Annual Greene County Master Gardener's Flower and Patio Show will conducted April 25-26 at the Greene County Fairgrounds. The show will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 25 and 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. April 26. Admission is free. The show features vendors, demonstrations, plant sale, food, free trees, raffle. The fairgrounds is located one mile east of Switz City on State Road 54.

Burris Chapel Cemetery

The Burris Chapel board members will meet at 7 p.m. on April 23 to discuss the upkeep of the cemetery. The meeting will be at the residence of Rodney Walker.

1960-70 Linton-Stockton class reunion

Pancake and sausage day

The Sandborn Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual pancake and sausage day from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for children 5 - 12 years of age and children under 5 eat free. All proceeds go to the purchase of a new rescue saw.

Chicken noodle dinner

The Shelburn Church of God will hold a chicken noodle fundraiser from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Cost is $6 for those 12 years of age and up and $3 for those under 11 years of age.

Nationwide Web cast

L-S kindergarten enrollment

It is time to pre-enroll students for the 2009/2010 Linton kindergarten classes. During the month of April, school staff will need to know the names of those students who will be taking the kindergarten screening in May. Children who will be five 5- years old on or before Aug. 1 may take the screening which will be given in the kindergarten rooms in the elementary school on Tuesday, May 19. As pre-enrollment information is received, each child will be given an appointment time to come in for screening. Anyone who needs a pre-enrollment form should contact the elementary school office. Fish fry Saturday

The Marco United Methodist Church located off of State Highway 67, will host the semi-annual spring fish fry on Saturday starting at 4 p.m. The fish fry is a buffet all-you-can-eat meal consisting of fried pollock fish, homemade potato salad, baked beans, cole slaw and homemade dessert. Cost is $7 for adults and children (under 12) $4. A new stair lift has been installed for easy access to the basement. After the meal, there will be gospel singing for your enjoyment in the church upstairs.

Croonin' for Crohn's

On Saturday at Schafer Auditorium in Bedford, host of Southern Indiana's finest musical performers will step on the stage at 8 p.m. for the 3rd annual "Croonin' for Crohn's." The 1967 Shakamak High School graduates should mark Sept. 25 on their calendars as a 60th birthday celebration is planned. Peavey Cemetery

Spring clean-up for the Peavey Cemetery is underway. Wreaths and other such winter decorations need to be removed prior to this date. Memorial decorations that interfere with mowing should be removed prior to June 15.

Miniature golf fundraiser

Friends for Kids of Daviess County will be host its annual Miniature Golf Tournament on April 25 at Putter's Bay course in Washington. There will be a shotgun start at 10 a.m. with several prizes. This is the annual fundraiser for the organization that mentors children of Daviess County. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for children. "An Evening with Lincoln" will be hosted by the Greene County Republican party April 30 at the 4-H fairgrounds. At 5:30 p.m. a reception will kick-off the event and will be followed by dinner, a silent auction and the program. Guest speaker is Lonn Pressnall, a professor at the University of Illinois, who has 40 years experience with Lincoln presentations. Kindergarten round-up

Shakamak Elementary School will conduct kindergarten round-up April 21 from 9 a.m. - noon, 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m., and 4 - 5 p.m. Children who are 5 years old on or before Aug. 1 are eligible for enrollment. Kindergarten packets are available in the elementary office. Packets should be picked up prior to round-up.

Reserved youth turkey hunt

A reserved youth turkey hunt will be Saturday and Sunday. Sign-up is now through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Minnehaha office to hunt at Minnehaha FWA, Hillenbrand FWA, Chinook FWA, or Fairbanks Landing FWA. A limited number of youth hunters will be allowed to hunt on each property per day.

Fairview Cemetery clean-up

Fairview Cemetery clean-up is now underway. The city of Linton asks that all flowers, wreaths, hangers, hooks, etc. be removed from the graves. Only those attached to the stone will be kept.
