Born Feb. 28, 1933, in Jasonville, he was the son of Luther Robinson "Bob" and Louetta (Slusher) Cox.
He attended Washington schools and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He worked at McCord Corp. and then was a track inspector foreman for CSX Railroad. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W. and Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Local Union 74. He was a member of Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Darlene (Lewis) Cox, whom he married Nov. 17, 1954; daughters and son-in-law, Vickie Lynn and Ron Eugene Bough of Bloomfield, and Debra Kay Walker of Princeton; sons and daughters-in-law, Lonnie George and Donna Louis Cox and Steven Michael and Christina Kay Cox, all of Washington; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Carl James Cox of Washington.
He is preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Cox; sisters, Roberta Jean Campbell and Minnie Catherine Cox; brothers, Clifford Wayne Cox, Clyde Verl Cox, Gradon Guy Cox, Robert E. Cox and Kenneth G. Cox.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Gill Funeral Home in Washington.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
