First responders were called to the scene of a serious one-vehicle traffic accident on State Road 45 -- 1 1/2 miles north of the NSA Crane (Bloomington) Gate -- early Monday morning in Jackson Township.

An Air-Evac helicopter was summoned to assist with the transport of a 27-year-old female patient -- Sarah (Flinn) Leeds -- with a severe head injury. She was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.

The accident occurred about 6:50 a.m.

The patient was transported from the scene of the wreck by Greene County Ambulance Service to the Center Township Fire Department helipad for transport to the hospital.

Leeds is listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit, according to Clarian Health Partners spokesman Gene Ford.

Leeds suffered internal injuries as well as injuries to her head and shoulder, according to the police report.

Lt. Bryan Woodall of the Greene County Sheriff's Department said Leeds, who is originally from Bloomfield and now living in Tayors, S.C., was traveling north on State Road 45 in a 2001 Honda Civic when she went left of the center lane for an unknown reason. Apparently, she over-corrected and veered off the east side of the roadway. Her car hit an earthen embankment, then started to roll and struck a tree with the driver's side door.

"The car sort of rolled up the tree," Lt. Woodall said. "The impact caused the roof, dash and door (of the car) to collapse on the driver."

Leeds was extricated from the vehicle by members of the Owensburg-Jackson Township and Center Township volunteer fire departments.

Woodall said Leeds was wearing a seatbelt.

The accident is being investigated by the Greene County Sheriff's Department.

Cyber News at its best? Talk about tacky....

-- Posted by Coda on Mon, Mar 23, 2009, at 8:07 AM

This was in Jackson Twp, Owensburg Fire responded to the accident first and called for assistance from Center Fire Department

-- Posted by whocares on Mon, Mar 23, 2009, at 8:37 AM

Wow, prayers to her & her family.

***********************************

Whatever Coda, I have my reasons.

-- Posted by GoGreeneCounty.com on Mon, Mar 23, 2009, at 10:33 AM

I hope she is o.k. The crane gate it was by is NSA Crane not NSWC Crane.

Just thought I would clear that up.

I hope we are kept informed on her condition.

-- Posted by redbird08 on Mon, Mar 23, 2009, at 11:19 AM

I hope she is o.k. and we are kept updated on her condition.

The Bloomington gate is at NSA Crane not NSWC, just to inform, nothing more.

Talk about petty; does it matter who arrived first to the scene? The fact of the matter is BOTH fire departments helped this young lady in her time of need!

I think you missed read my comment. At first Owensburg Fire was not listed as being on scene. Just wanted to give them credit for being on scene.

My prayers are whith Sarah and her family!!!

I do not care what your reasons are. I do not approve. This is not the 1st time you have made little comments like that after a tragic event when lives are possibly on the line and families are worried. Pick a better "story" to hype the paper and your website.

I agree Coda, very innapropriate.

Keeping the family in my thoughts and prayers.

-- Posted by dorindaJ on Tue, Mar 24, 2009, at 12:33 AM

First off, Let me say that I'm praying for this family.

Second.... Who I think is TACKY are the people who are attacking Whocares. She simply stated a fact. I read nothing more into it and those of you who did really should get a life. It's even more Tacky to sit here and argue about these things on a webpage about a woman who is currently fighting for her life. Grow up.

I hope this young woman pulls through...she is in my thoughts and prayers, as well as her family.

-- Posted by blin08 on Tue, Mar 24, 2009, at 8:15 AM

well said hoosierx71 I agreee with you. Everyone should grow up and quit using this post for somewhere to agrue. My thoughts and prayers are with Sarah and her family they will need all they can get at this time of need.

I have to agree...it doesnt matter who showed up first the fact of the matter is she was removed from the vehicle and LIFE LINED to Indianapolis. She's in critical condition, all that should matter is she make it through this. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family!! God Bless!

Sarah, you have my devoted prayers. Please everyone, pass the word to pray for her quick recovery.

Prayers going up here!

Could someone let me know if she is Kevin & Jamie's sister?

-- Posted by lakermom on Tue, Mar 24, 2009, at 1:35 PM

Yes as a matter of fact, Sarah is mine, Jamie's, and Mark's sister. I would really like to thank all who are praying for her. She really need them and will continue to need them. For all those who are arguing about what someone else said or who got there first or what gate it was by, no one cares. Just in case you didn't realize it, that is my sister that almost died and is still fighting to recover in a hospital while you all are sitting here worried about what other people say in a comment or what gate it was by. Maybe you should consider worrying more about the person and their family. Try to imagine what my parents are going through right now sitting by sister's side while she in the hospital. Try to imagine how it makes them feel to get on here and see other people that might or might not know our family worried about things that don't even matter. Just try it. Again, thank you for everyone who is praying for my sister. God bless you all.

Hey, Kevin...if there is anything I can do to help, please let me know! I am contacting pastors at our churches here to put her on the prayer chain...

-- Posted by lakermom on Tue, Mar 24, 2009, at 2:56 PM

please just keep Sarah in your prayers.

-- Posted by Ferrari on Tue, Mar 24, 2009, at 6:43 PM

First off I want to say that the Flinn family has been in my thoughts and prayers this wk. I attended high school with Sarah and participated in the ROTC program with her. She was a great friend and leader! She made everyone smile and was always there to lend a helping hand. I am proud to say that my guys with the help of CFD were able to help her. I must say that as a captain at OFD I am disheartened to see that someone which I will presume is from my department is using this space for their own personal agenda! Grow up! I assure everyone that this is not a common practice for our department and will not be tolerated from its members! Please dont let the stinky actions of one bad apple ruin your oppinion of all of us. We are only here to help our community. To the Flinn family, God bless you all.

My comment was just giving more information to the newspaper. At first owensburg was not mention in the article so i was just giving the information to them. It was not meant to be misleading at all. These departments all work together very well.

My thoughts and prayers are with Sarah & her family.

Any updates on the young woman's condition? I hope she will be OK. My heartfelt prayers go up for her healing and strength for her family!

-- Posted by anon on Sat, Mar 28, 2009, at 5:37 PM

does anyone know how Sarah is getting along?

-- Posted by JVA on Mon, Mar 30, 2009, at 8:01 AM

We received an email at our school with an update from her husband. He said the neurologist looked at her CAT scans and said there was nothing in the tests that would indicate Sarah would have a difficult time making a full recovery.

Keep her in your prayers! She still has a difficult path ahead of her!

-- Posted by lakermom on Tue, Mar 31, 2009, at 8:23 AM

I just want to say, I just learned of this tragic event. I am glad that sarah seems to be doing better. I live out of town, and sometimes it is hard to stay in touch with what is going on in the home town. I am a prayer warrior for my church and community, and I am fighting for sarahs full recovery.
