Linton City Council to meet

The Linton City Council will meet in special session Wednesday at 5 p.m. to award the bid for the city's new fire truck.

Library to show inauguration

The Linton Public Library will show the Presidential inauguration in its program room on the big screen beginning at 11:30 a.m. today. The event is being broadcast over the Internet, so the Library can project it. The public is invited to attend.

Dugger Lodge

Dugger Lodge # 721 F& AM will meet Thursday. Work in EA degree at 7 p.m.

Newberry Festival meeting

A Newberry Festival Meeting will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 27 in the basement of the United Methodist Church. Everyone is welcome. Vendors and parade entries are on the agenda. For vendors call Veronica Ault at (812) 699-1082 and for parade entries call Charlotte Pickett at (812) 269-0478.

Annual board meeting

The Greene County SWCD will hold its annual board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Greene County 4-H Fairgrounds. Victor Shelton will be the guest speaker.

Blood drive

Bloomfield United Methodist (60 W. Main, Bloomfield) is hosting a Community Blood Drive on Feb. 9 from 4-7 p.m. in the community room. Donors must be at least 16 years old with a picture ID, weigh at least 110 pounds, and pass a brief mini-physical. Contact Janene at the church office (384-8747) from 9 a.m. to noon if you have any questions or to schedule an appointment.

Oldies and classic rock dance

The Jasonville American Legion will host an oldies and classic rock dance from 9 p.m. - 1 a.m. Saturday with Hot Rod Lincoln performance. It's open to public.

Book sale at Bloomfield Library

The Friends of the Bloomfield - Eastern Greene County Library will host at book sale in the community room of the library at 125 S. Franklin Street Thursday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. In addition to a nice selection of fiction and non-fiction for children and adults, there are more mysteries and westerns than usual to choose from. Most paperbacks are 25 cents, hardbacks 50 cents, and some premium books are priced slightly higher. As with all library book sales, the profits will be used to provide programs and materials for the library.

Recycling trailer

Greene County Solid Waste District's mobile recycling trailer will be in eastern Greene County at the Center Township Fire Department today through noon on Wednesday. The trailer will then be moved to Jasonville near city hall from Jan. 21-28.

Video applicator's course offered

There will be an IP video course offered from Purdue University offered at the Greene County Extension Office on Thursday, January 29 from 9-11 am. This is a class being offered to help with the recertification of those holding a Private Applicator's License. The cost for the training is $10 and you are asked to bring your permit number with you. Please call the Extension Office at 659-2122 by Monday, Jan. 26, if you plan to attend.

Meth Awareness Week

Jan. 25-30 has been designated as Meth Awareness Week in Greene County. The third annual Meth Awareness Candlelight Vigil will be Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. at Bloomfield First Baptist Church, 500 Lincoln Drive, Bloomfield. The public is invited to attend. Included in the program are a musical performance by Linton-Stockton Elementary School's choir under the direction of Hope Ault, and a personal testimony about being in recovery.

A methamphetamine basics seminar will also be offered in 2009 for community professionals who work with families and children, those involved with on-site visitation or services, those who work outdoors and may be exposed to meth residue, and the general public.

This is a free training. A morning seminar is scheduled for Jan. 28 from 9 -- 11:30 a.m. and an evening seminar is scheduled for March 3 from 6 -- 8:30 p.m. Both seminars will be at the Greene County 4-H community building. White River Valley School Board

The White River Valley School Board will meet in regular session at 8 p.m. today in the administrative center in the jr./sr. high. An executive session will precede the open meeting at 7 p.m.

Memory Makers Quilt Guild

The Memory Makers Quilt Guild of Greene County will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 29 at the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Library. Grace Sipes will be hostess.

Stephen Hill to sing

Christian singer/songwriter Stephen Hill will be in concert at 3 p.m. on Feb. 8 at Bloomfield First Baptist. Hill is best known for his appearances on the "Gaither Homecoming" TV series and has worked with performers ranging from Mark Lowry to Dolly Parton. He sings from the heart about issues that confront everyone. For more information call 384-8459. Free will offerings will be accepted.

LSHS class reunion

The Linton-Stockton High School class of 1984 is planning its 25th class reunion. The class is asking for updated addresses. 1750-1840 Linton Trade Fair

The Buck Creek Muzzleloader's Club will host a trade fair from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Roy Clark Community Building in Linton. Cost is $3 at the door, children 3 and under are free with a paid adult.

Book at library

Ruby Moon-Houldson's latest novel, "The Mark of Cain", is now available for check out at the Linton Public Library. Interested readers should call to check on availability -- you may need to be placed on a waiting list.

GED testing at CLC

GED testing for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is given from 4-9 p.m. on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month at the Greene County Community Learning Center housed at White River Valley High School. Those taking the test will need to schedule both days to complete the entire test. Those wishing to take the exam must register in person, one week prior to the exam and present three pieces of ID -- which should include one photo ID. Cost of the exam is $60 or $15 for each section re-test which must be paid at time of registration. For more information call 659-3862.

Road closed

County Road 100 South between 250 West and 100 West in Fairplay Township will be closed until further notice for bridge replacement.

2009 Goose Pond calendars

The 2009 Goose Pond calendar is available for sale at Main Street Gifts in Linton and the Greene County Community Learning Center at White River Valley Junior-Senior High School in Switz City. The calendars showcase area winners of the first annual Goose Pond Photo contest. Calendars are a fundraiser for the Friends of Goose Pond and sell for $10. Calendars can also be shipped to out of state locations by contacting friendsofgoosepond@yahoo.com .

House of Grace

House of Grace Coffee House will offer fellowship, food, worship and youth classes. The church is located at 792 S. Section St. in Dugger.

Pleasantville food pantry

The Pleasantville United Methodist Church food pantry is now open on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 10:30 a.m. - noon.

Sonshine Shop

The Greene County Soil Waste Management District and Recycling Center is partnering with the Sonshine Shop on 14 N. Washington St. in Worthington. There will be a collection site starting Monday for paper, books, magazines, plastic, aluminum cans, steel food cans and cardboard located in the back of the Sonshine Shop by the blue building. Residents are asked to drop off recyclable materials only and do not leave trash at this site.

Worthington Senior Citizens

The Worthington Senior Center is selling persimmon pulp. Cost is $4 for a two-cup package. Call 875-2525 or 875-2012 to order.

GED preparation classes

Turning Point Education Center in Switz City is offering GED preparation classes. Class times are available Monday through Friday from 8:15 to 11:15 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays 5 - 8 p.m. Interested students may contact Misty Hunt at 659-2533 for program information and enrollment requirements.

Greene County Soil and Water Conservation

Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District has its monthly meeting the first Thursday of each month at 6 a.m. in the conference room at the office located at 104 CR 70 E, Suite B. Greene County Soil & Water Conservation district is redirecting Clean Water Indiana Grant Funds to provide assistance for sediment and nutrient flood damage projects not covered under Farm Service Agency or Natural Resource Conservation programs. The Lyons Senior Citizens Center, 150 N. Jefferson St., now has wooden toy crafts for sale. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Lyons First Christian Church youth group meets at 6 p.m. on Mondays at the church's East Broad Street location.

Dugger Legion to meet

The Rexford Ballard American Legion Post 224 will meet the first Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

Jasonville Senior center update

The Jasonville Senior Citizen Center, located at 145 S. Lawton, has opened a country store and gift shop. It will be open from 9 a.m.-noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All proceeds will benefit the senior center. For more information, call the center at 665-9882.

Wig bank

The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield. Narcotics Anonymous

Narcotics Anonymous will meet Saturdays at 7 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church on State Road 54 East. There will be open discussion and all are welcome.

Food pantry

Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m.

Bloomfield Food pantry

The Refuge Assembly of God food pantry will be open every Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. to assist those living in Bloomfield. To donate, please contact Trina at 384-8093 during the pantry's open hours.
