With the loss, the Lakers fell to 4-10 overall and 1-4 in conference play, while the Cougars improve to 5-8, 2-1.
The Lady Lakers found themselves in a 16-4 hole after just the first eight minutes of play.
According to head coach Troy Fougerousse the visiting Cougars was successful in breaking the Lakers full court press which led to half of their first quarter points.
"We knew defensively they like to set back in a 2-3 zone so we wanted to put some pressure one them by enforcing a full court press early," Fougerousse said. "But they were able to break down our press and score at least eight easy points."
Shakamak managed to outscore North Daviess 6-5 in the second frame, but the Cougars had another significant advantage in the third frame before closing out the game by outscoring the hosts in the final eight minutes of play as well.
"It's awfully tough to win games when you only score 27 points," a disappointed Fougerousse said. "Although we gave up 50 points I thought the effort was there defensively. They just got some easy points from our press and we made some late fouls."
Marki Collins led the slumping Lakers offense with 10 points while Casey Fougerousse scored five points.
The Cougars were led by Katie Doades with 23 points.
"We just have to find ways to be more efficient on offense," Fougerousse said."
Shakamak will be back in action Thursday night when they travel to Eminence for a Tri-River Conference contest.
