The list of "Best Buy" schools is presented annually by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce as a way to recognize schools that give taxpayers the most for their money.
Bloomfield Jr./Sr. High School was one of the 132 high schools on the 2008 list.
"Schools are designated for this award if the school has a quality index above the state median of .0604 and total revenues below the statewide median of $9,313 per student," Bloomfield School Superintendent Dan Sichting explained in a press release. "The second method for a high school to qualify is by having a quality index percentile ranking that was 20 percent higher than their percentile ranking per student revenues."
All high schools in the state were ranked from the highest quality to the lowest quality. The schools were also ranked from the highest revenues per student to the lowest revenues per student, the press release stated.
"The 20 percent variance method was implemented to include those schools that may have above median revenues, but are still doing extremely well with a high quality index," Sichting explained. "Alternatively, schools with a quality index below the statewide median, but whose funding is extremely low, could also qualify as 'Best Buys'."
Bloomfield Jr./Sr. High School qualified under the 20 percent variance method for above average performance despite receiving less than the state wide median of $9,313 funding per student.
