Chili Supper

The Shakamak Jr.-Sr. High School Choir Booster will hold a chili supper from 3:30 - 6 p.m. Saturday in the high school cafeteria. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 3- 12. Tickets may be purchased in advance from any high school choir member. Tickets will also be available at the door.

Greene Lodge #57

Greene Lodge #577 will present a 50 year award to Harold D. Spainhower during a stated meeting on Jan. 19. Family, friends and brethren are welcome. Meal at 6:30 p.m. and open lodge at 7:30 p.m.

Linton-Stockton School Board

The Linton-Stockton School Board of Trustees will meet in executive session at 6 p.m. and in regular session at 7 p.m. Monday in the superintendent's building.

1750 Linton Trade Fair

The Buck Creek Muzzleloader's Club will host a trade fair from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Jan. 24 and from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Roy Clark Community Building in Linton. Cost is $3 at the door, children 3 and under are free with a paid adult.

Greene County Singles

The Greene County Singles will hold a dance and dinner Saturday at the Greene County Extension Building at Switz City. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m., dance from 8- 11 p.m. Admission is $5 with a food item, $6 with a 2 liter soda or $7 empty-handed. For more information call 825-4032.

Four Rivers Board of Directors

Four Rivers Resource Services, Inc. Board of Directors will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday in the conference room of the regional offices located at State Road 59 South in Linton.

Union Church Gospel Sing

Union Church's gospel sings will once again be held on the third Saturday of the month-- with this month's being at 7 p.m. Jan. 17. The church is located on State Road 43 between Solsberry and Hendricksville. Public is welcome. For information call 876-5680 or 825-2054.

Recycling in Owensburg

The Greene County Recycling Center has set a mobile recycling dumpster in the parking lot to the east of the Owensburg Fire Station. The mobile unit has been placed there on a trial basis for public use. Recyclers are encouraged to take advantage of the service but use the bins as they are marked.

Book at library

Ruby Moon-Houldson's latest novel, "The Mark of Cain", is now available for check out at the Linton Public Library. Interested readers should call to check on availability -- you may need to be placed on a waiting list.

Bloomfield NARFE

Bloomfield NARFE will have an 11:30 a.m. lunch and a 12:30 p.m. meeting today at Stoll's in Linton. All retirees and guests are welcome to attend.

Shakamak School Board

The MSD of Shakamak Board of Trustees will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the high school media center and at 6 p.m. in executive session in the central office conference room.

Geochache Meet and Greet

There will be a Geochache Meet and Greet on Saturday at the west shelterhouse at Linton's Humphreys Park from noon to 2 p.m. Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Travel bugs will be available to hide and or track. At 2 p.m., 12 new chache locations will be revealed to all who attend. Chili will be provided for a small donation. The public is encouraged to attend to learn about this fast growing worldwide sport.

Greene-Sullivan Co-op to meet

The meeting of the executive board of the Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative will meet in executive session to discuss confidential student records, information about prospective employees at 8:30 a.m. today with the regular meeting to follow at 10 a.m.

GED testing at CLC

GED testing for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is given from 4-9 p.m. on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month at the Greene County Community Learning Center housed at White River Valley High School. Those taking the test will need to schedule both days to complete the entire test. Those wishing to take the exam must register in person, one week prior to the exam and present three pieces of ID -- which should include one photo ID. Cost of the exam is $60 or $15 for each section re-test which must be paid at time of registration. For more information call 659-3862.

Road closed

County Road 100 South between 250 West and 100 West in Fairplay Township will be closed until further notice for bridge replacement.

Tobacco Cessation Class slated to begin today

A tobacco cessation class will be on Tuesday evenings from 6 - 8 p.m. from Jan. 13 -- March 10 in the conference room at Greene County General Hospital. Free nicotine replacement therapy (patches or gum) will be made available to class participants for the duration of the class, courtesy of the Greene County Public Health Department. You must register in advance to participate. Class facilitator Chris Sparks is a certified tobacco cessation counselor through Community Intervention, Inc. and Clarian Tobacco Control Center (Clarian Health Partners). 2009 Goose Pond calendars

The 2009 Goose Pond calendar is available for sale at Main Street Gifts in Linton and the Greene County Community Learning Center at White River Valley Junior-Senior High School in Switz City. The calendars showcase area winners of the first annual Goose Pond Photo contest. Calendars are a fundraiser for the Friends of Goose Pond and sell for $10. Calendars can also be shipped to out of state locations by contacting friendsofgoosepond@yahoo.com .

House of Grace

House of Grace Coffee House will offer fellowship, food, worship and youth classes. The church is located at 792 S. Section St. in Dugger.

Pleasantville food pantry

The Pleasantville United Methodist Church food pantry is now open on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 10:30 a.m. - noon.

Sonshine Shop

The Greene County Soil Waste Management District and Recycling Center is partnering with the Sonshine Shop on 14 N. Washington St. in Worthington. There will be a collection site starting Monday for paper, books, magazines, plastic, aluminum cans, steel food cans and cardboard located in the back of the Sonshine Shop by the blue building. Residents are asked to drop off recyclable materials only and do not leave trash at this site.

Worthington Senior Citizens

The Worthington Senior Center is selling persimmon pulp. Cost is $4 for a two-cup package. Call 875-2525 or 875-2012 to order.

GED preparation classes

Turning Point Education Center in Switz City is offering GED preparation classes. Class times are available Monday through Friday from 8:15 to 11:15 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays 5 - 8 p.m. Interested students may contact Misty Hunt at 659-2533 for program information and enrollment requirements.

The Lyons First Christian Church youth group meets at 6 p.m. on Mondays at the church's East Broad Street location.

Jasonville Senior center update

The Jasonville Senior Citizen Center, located at 145 S. Lawton, has opened a country store and gift shop. It will be open from 9 a.m.-noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All proceeds will benefit the senior center. For more information, call the center at 665-9882.

Wig bank

The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield.
