Two Alberta Clippers and arctic air heading toward the Wabash Valley this week, according to WTWO-TV meteorologist Dan Reynolds.
Sunday night, a weak trough will move East ending scattered light snow showers and flurries.
The low will be around 20under mostly cloudy skies.
First clipper will arrive on Monday and the area will see a rain/snow mix during the afternoon with a high of 34 and breezy conditions with gusts to 30, according to Reynolds.
Rain will change over to snow around 7 p.m.
Light snow accumulations of 1 inch for most, with a slight chance of 2 inches north to the I-74 corridor.
Reynolds says it will be breezy, which may cause some blowing snow. Overnight low of 21.
Tuesday will see decreasing clouds with a gusty northwest wind and falling temperatures. High of 22 early, then downhill for a Wednesday morning low of 8.
The next "clipper" will arrive Wednesday afternoon and this will produce snow showers.
"It looks to be about 40 percent coverage. Models show this clipper tracking farther south with little snow South of the track. As always, track of the low will determine the snow placement," Reynolds noted in a weather advisory issued Sunday evening. "Bitterly cold air comes in behind this clipper."
Thursday morning the low will dip to 4 degrees with a high of 10.
"Winds will likely be strong and temperatures will fall during the day. Expect a wind chill advisory. Wind-chill values look to be nearly minus 20. Significant threat to exposed areas" the weatherman noted.
Thursday night into Friday morning will be the coldest with a low
of 3 below zero.
"Any snow on the ground will make it even colder and will likely have mostly clear skies to radiate what little daytime heating there is. Friday's high 15," Reynolds stated.
It will still be cold to start the weekend at 5 degrees on Saturday morning, but a little warming with a high 22.
Sunday will start at 17 and warm to 28.
Greene County Emergency Management Director Roger Axe reminds residents to prepare now for the big chill coming into the area.
"If you haven't already noticed, Old Man Winter is here and will soon be making his presence known with a vengeance." said Axe. "We are encouraging our citizens to prepare now for what is coming. We urge our citizens to have enough food, fuel, and medicine on hand for the end of the week."
He continued, "Traveling can be bad enough in winter, but the sub-zero temperatures and increase wind chill make it down right dangerous. It's not like summer if your car breaks down. Body temperature can lower to threatening levels in just a few minutes. If you must travel carry a cellular telephone, a blanket, flash light and towel and extra socks to keep your feet dry. Should you would be exposed, warm the trunk or core of the body first. Warming the hands, feet, arms, and legs can cause back flow of the blood and a heart attack." Axe reminds residents to plan their schedules accordingly and if at all possible the best thing to do is stay indoors.
"This is especially true for our elderly population. We are also asking for people to check on our elderly to make sure they are safe during this time," he added in an advisory issued on Sunday evening.
I hope Al Gore hurries up with his "Global Warming" thing, it will help many people out on their heating bills for this year, HA HA!!
great reporting. . .interesting information that could save lives!!!! I did not know about the back flow deal with warming your extremities first. . . Drb
