There will be a Geochache Meet and Greet Jan. 17 at the west shelterhouse at Linton's Humphreys Park from noon to 2 p.m. Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment. Travel bugs will be available to hide and or track. At 2 p.m., 12 new chache locations will be revealed to all who attend. Chili will be provided for a small donation. The public is encouraged to attend to learn about this fast growing worldwide sport.

Greene-Sullivan Co-op to meet

The meeting of the executive board of the Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative will meet in executive session to discuss confidential student records, information about prospective employees Jan. 13 at 8:30 a.m. with the regular meeting to follow at 10 a.m. in the conference room at 77 "A" St., N.E., Linton.

Greene County Right to Life to meet

The Greene County Right to Life will host its January meeting at the Main St. Café in Bloomfield on Thursday at 7 p.m. If you wish to fellowship with other Pro-Life people arrive at 6 p.m. and bring money for dinner or dessert.

GED testing at CLC

GED testing for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is given from 4-9 p.m. on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month at the Greene County Community Learning Center housed at White River Valley High School. Those taking the test will need to schedule both days to complete the entire test. Those wishing to take the exam must register in person, one week prior to the exam and present three pieces of ID -- which should include one photo ID. Cost of the exam is $60 or $15 for each section re-test which must be paid at time of registration. For more information call 659-3862.

Soil, Water Conservation meeting

The Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District will conduct its first monthly meeting of 2009 at 6 a.m. today. All other meetings in 2009 will be conducted at 6 a.m. the first Thursday of the month.

Pleasantville Water Board of Directors

The board of directors of the Pleasantville Water Company Inc. will host the annual meeting at 7 p.m. on Jan. 12 at the Pleasantville Rock House. Members are encouraged to attend. The board position currently held by Don Bedwell will be open and any member in good standing with the company may file as a candidate. Written nominations must be received by noon on Jan. 10.

Linton Moose

Linton Moose will have steak, pork chop and shrimp dinner at 5 p.m. Friday. The public is invited, and money will be donated to charity.

Reception for new principal

A reception to welcome newly hired Bloomfield Jr./Sr. High School Principal David Dean will be at 3 p.m. today in the high school cafeteria.

Road closed

County Road 100 South between 250 West and 100 West in Fairplay Township will be closed until further notice for bridge replacement.

Book sale in Bloomfield

The Friends of the Bloomfield - Eastern Greene County Library will host their first book sale of the new year from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. today in the community room of the library at 125 S. Franklin Street. Many books have been donated recently, so there is a very large selection of fiction and non-fiction for children and adults from which to choose. Most hardbacks are 50˘, paperbacks 25˘, with some vintage and premium books priced slightly higher.

Tobacco Cessation Class slated to begin Jan 13.

A tobacco cessation class will be on Tuesday evenings from 6 - 8 p.m. from Jan. 13 -- March 10 in the conference room at Greene County General Hospital. Free nicotine replacement therapy (patches or gum) will be made available to class participants for the duration of the class, courtesy of the Greene County Public Health Department. You must register in advance to participate. Class facilitator Chris Sparks is a certified tobacco cessation counselor through Community Intervention, Inc. and Clarian Tobacco Control Center (Clarian Health Partners). 2009 Goose Pond calendars

The 2009 Goose Pond calendar is available for sale at Main Street Gifts in Linton and the Greene County Community Learning Center at White River Valley Junior-Senior High School in Switz City. The calendars showcase area winners of the first annual Goose Pond Photo contest. Calendars are a fundraiser for the Friends of Goose Pond and sell for $10. Calendars can also be shipped to out of state locations by contacting friendsofgoosepond@yahoo.com .

House of Grace

House of Grace Coffee House will offer fellowship, food, worship and youth classes. The church is located at 792 S. Section St. in Dugger.

Pleasantville food pantry

The Pleasantville United Methodist Church food pantry is now open on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 10:30 a.m. - noon.

Sonshine Shop

The Greene County Soil Waste Management District and Recycling Center is partnering with the Sonshine Shop on 14 N. Washington St. in Worthington. There will be a collection site starting Monday for paper, books, magazines, plastic, aluminum cans, steel food cans and cardboard located in the back of the Sonshine Shop by the blue building. Residents are asked to drop off recyclable materials only and do not leave trash at this site.

Worthington Senior Citizens

The Worthington Senior Center is selling persimmon pulp. Cost is $4 for a two-cup package. Call 875-2525 or 875-2012 to order.

GED preparation classes

Turning Point Education Center in Switz City is offering GED preparation classes. Class times are available Monday through Friday from 8:15 to 11:15 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays 5 - 8 p.m. Interested students may contact Misty Hunt at 659-2533 for program information and enrollment requirements.

Jasonville Senior center update

Wig bank

The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield. Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m.

Bloomfield Food pantry
