The Utilities District of Western Indiana REMC (UDWI) Community Fund announced for December

Tuesday, January 6, 2009
The Utilities District of Western Indiana REMC (UDWI) Community Fund has announced its December round of recipients:

Bloomfield Police Department, Eastern Greene Middle School, Four Rivers Resource Services, Greene County Extension Homemaker Association, Linton Music Festival, Linton-Stockton Junior High Leadership Academy, Midwest Friends of Animals, Worthington Playground Fund, Carnegie Heritage & Arts Center of Greene County, Junior Civitan-Linton-Stockton High School, and SPALSH (Students Pushing Academic Learning and Success Higher).

Because of the generosity of UDWI REMC members, the Community Fund is able to award more than $10,000 in grants each quarter. These funds are distributed by its trustees to local organizations within the UDWI service territory and have served a variety of needs, from equipment for fire departments to Toys for Tots and Clothe-a-Child programs at Christmas.

"After nearly four years in operation, the UDWI Community Fund is still going strong because of the concern and dedication to community demonstrated by our contributing members," said Brian Sparks, CEO of UDWI REMC. "It is an exciting program whose potential is as great as the outstanding local organizations it supports."

UDWI members who contribute to the program agree to have their electric bills rounded up to the next whole dollar. The amount of the "round up" is put into the UDWI Community Fund, from which grants are awarded by fund trustees on a quarterly basis.

For more information about the Community Fund, call UDWI REMC at 384.4446 or 1-800-489-7362.
