Linton Moose

Linton Moose will have steak, pork chop and shrimp dinner at 5 p.m. Saturday. Public is invited.

Greene County Solid Waste Board

The Greene County Solid Waste Board of Directors will meet at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday after the commissioners meeting. The meeting will be in the commissioner's room of the courthouse.

Commissioners to meet

The Greene County Commissioners will hold the first regular meeting of the new year at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. The meeting will be in the commissioner's room, located on the third floor of the courthouse in Bloomfield. The meeting is open to the public.

Building Corporation will gather Wednesday

The Greene County Building Corporation will meet at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in the commissioner's room, located on the third floor of the courthouse in Bloomfield. The meeting is open to the public.

Reception for new principal

A reception to welcome newly hired Bloomfield Jr./Sr. High School Principal David Dean will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the high school cafeteria.

Road closed

County Road 100 South between 250 West and 100 West in Fairplay Township will be closed beginning today until further notice for bridge replacement.

Book sale

The Friends of the Bloomfield - Eastern Greene County Library will hold the first book sale of the new year from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Thursday in the community room of the library at 125 S. Franklin Street. Many books have been donated recently, so there is a very large selection of fiction and non-fiction for children and adults from which to choose. Most hardbacks are 50¢, paperbacks 25¢, with some vintage and premium books priced slightly higher.

Bloomfield PTO

The Bloomfield PTO will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Bloomfield Jr./Sr. High School conference room. The meeting will focus on plans for the spring carnival, the Spring Read-a-Thon and snacks for the spring ISTEP tests.

Bloomfield Chamber to meet

The Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon Wednesday at Pepperoni Grill.

Soil, Water Conservation meeting

The Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District will conduct its first monthly meeting of 2009 at 6 a.m. Thursday. All other meetings in 2009 will be conducted at 6 a.m. the first Thursday of the month.

Tobacco Cessation Class slated

to begin Jan 13.

A tobacco cessation class will be on Tuesday evenings from 6 - 8 p.m. Jan. 13 -- March 10, 2009 in the conference room at Greene County General Hospital. Free nicotine replacement therapy (patches or gum) will be made available to class participants for the duration of the class, courtesy of the Greene County Public Health Department. You must register in advance to participate. Class facilitator Chris Sparks is a certified tobacco cessation counselor through Community Intervention, Inc. and Clarian Tobacco Control Center (Clarian Health Partners). To register, or for more information, please contact Chris at 847-9496. Individual cessation counseling is also available by calling 1-800-QUITNOW or the GCTPC office (384-8769).

2009 Goose Pond calendars

The 2009 Goose Pond calendar is available for sale at Main Street Gifts in Linton and the Greene County Community Learning Center at White River Valley Junior-Senior High School in Switz City. The calendars showcase area winners of the first annual Goose Pond Photo contest. Calendars are a fundraiser for the Friends of Goose Pond and sell for $10.

House of Grace

House of Grace Coffee House will offer fellowship, food, worship and youth classes. The church is located at 792 S. Section St. in Dugger.

Pleasantville food pantry

The Pleasantville United Methodist Church food pantry is now open on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 10:30 a.m. - noon.

Worthington Senior Citizens

The Worthington Senior Center is selling persimmon pulp. Cost is $4 for a two-cup package. Call 875-2525 or 875-2012 to order.

GED preparation classes

Turning Point Education Center in Switz City is offering GED preparation classes. Class times are available Monday through Friday from 8:15 to 11:15 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays 5 - 8 p.m. Interested students may contact Misty Hunt at 659-2533 for program information and enrollment requirements.

Grant funds available

Greene County Soil & Water Conservation district is redirecting Clean Water Indiana Grant Funds to provide assistance for sediment and nutrient flood damage projects not covered under Farm Service Agency or Natural Resource Conservation programs. GED testing

GED testing for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is given on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month at the Greene County Community Learning Center housed at White River Valley High School. Those wishing to take the exam must register in person, one week prior to the exam and present three pieces of ID including one photo ID. Cost of the exam is $60 which must be paid at time of registration. For more information contact 659-3862

Federal Black Lung assistance

Black Lung Benefits assistance counselors are available by appointment now at the Glenburn Community Center in Linton. For more information call Shelly Rigsby at 1-866-282-9553.

Lyons Senior Citizens center

The Lyons Senior Citizens Center, 150 N. Jefferson St., now has wooden toy crafts for sale. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Lyons First Christian Church youth group

The Lyons First Christian Church youth group meets at 6 p.m. on Mondays at the church's East Broad Street location.

Dugger Legion to meet

The Rexford Ballard American Legion Post 224 will meet the first Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

Jasonville Senior center update

The Jasonville Senior Citizen Center, located at 145 S. Lawton, has opened a country store and gift shop. It will be open from 9 a.m.-noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All proceeds will benefit the senior center. For more information, call the center at 665-9882.

Wig bank

The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield. The program is a service of the American Cancer Society and is free to cancer patients. For more information, call Dona Stewart at 384-4160 or visit Pam's Style Shop, at 3 County Road 70 E.

Narcotics Anonymous

Narcotics Anonymous will meet Saturdays at 7 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church on State Road 54 East. There will be open discussion and all are welcome.

Food pantry

Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m.

Bloomfield Food pantry

The Refuge Assembly of God food pantry will be open every Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. to assist those living in Bloomfield. To donate, please contact Trina at 384-8093 during the pantry's open hours.
