The No. 2 Lady Vikings, who outscored WRV 22-8 in the fourth quarter, won for the 10th time without a loss. WRV lost for the first time in 13 games.
"We were still up 10 or 12 with four minutes to go," said WRV coach Joe Pigg. "We came down and turned the ball over six straight times at that end of the floor.
"I thought we played hard and competed for three quarters and two minutes. I would love to have the fourth quarter back."
The Lady Wolverines outscored Barr-Reeve 30-13 over the middle two quarters, taking a 10-point cushion to the fourth stanza.
"For some reason, we stopped attacking in the fourth quarter and let them become the aggressor," said Pigg. "Even though they are big and quick, we were still able to execute and get a lot of wide open shots, which is part of the reason we built up the lead.
"But they are a very good basketball team. That made more plays and did all the little things when it counted."
Kelsey Anderson hit two free throws with approximately 60 seconds remaining to put the Lady Wolverines ahead 43-42. But Barr-Reeve scored the game's final five points.
Anderson and Tayler Kail each hit three 3-pointers for WRV. Anderson had 17 points and Kail scored a season-high 11.
Stephanie Fougerousse was limited to seven points, less than half of her average.
The Lady Wolverines played without Ashley Hamilton, who was ill with the flu.
Hilliary Fox topped Barr-Reeve with a game-high 21 points. Liz Horton added 11 for the winners.
White River Valley will be off until Monday, Jan. 12 when they host Class A No. 1 Vincennes Rivet at 6:30 p.m. in another varsity-only game.
"We play the No. 1 team in the state next time," said Pigg. "Hopefully we can learn from this and get better during the season."

Girl's we think you are all playing tough and just want you to know that we are cheering for you as a team. This was a tough loss but we know you will learn from it and come back strong for the next game.
WRV Sports Fan --
Your comments might be the single dumbest thing I have read recently. Playing dirty? You have to be joking. The play you talk about from our (Shakamak) game with Barr-Reeve was incidental contact.....and the player that caused the broken bone was all of like 5 feet tall. Barr-Reeve is a good team, and were just better on this day. Deal with it.
why not just say the girls were not the better team on this day and move on and let this be a lesson.
excuses get you nowhere, suck it up learn from the mistakes and go get them next time.
one loss at this juncture in the season is not too shabby at all, not many teams at this level finish with a 0 in the loss column
Lady Wolverines,it's always hard to loose but remember it's the hard knocks in life that will make you stronger.
As for myself and some other fans,we need to remember to watch our big mouths and not yell things we shouldn't at the officials. The REFS are in charge and can choose to make it harder on our Ladies.
Are you calling our girls fat or what ?? Yes they, (WRV), do get pushed and shoved and elbowed and their coach don't allow that kind of play out of them. You can shove a "big" girl the same as you can a small girl it just takes a little more. WRV girls don't play a dirty game, no sour grapes to it. The point is not the loss, its good to have a loss to keep you grounded, but playing dirty to win is not a win you can or should enjoy or be proud of.
WRV sports fan: You mean to tell me that as big as WRV is they got pushed around???? Come on now. Sounds like a bunch of sour grapes to me.
Even tho our WRV girls lost, they can still be proud of themselves cause they play with heart and they play an honest game. Kudos to Coach Pigg and Coach Hostetter for teaching these girls those values. They don't push and shove and elbow and break eye-sockets to get a win. No one can accuse our girls of winning due to home court advantage because the officials are generally not bias to us. Hold your heads up high WRV Lady Wolverines and be proud of all you have accomplished. You are ALL doing a great job and we are very proud of you. Good luck in the rest of your season.
My hat is off to Barr Reeve! Great coaching. Kudos for having the right people in the game and with the ball when the game was on the line because that is not the time to experiment with next years team. Great display of inside/outside offense. Great job of the guards passing to the post and not constantly looking to reverse the ball back to the perimeter. Also, great job of the role players setting screens and passing the ball to the scorers of the team. Just beautiful execution of the way basketball should be played.
good game kelsey and wolverines. sounds like you gave them all they wanted
