Town of Newberry meeting

Town of Newberry will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. Dec. 23. This meeting is the end of year meeting to sign claims.

Linton Lodge #560

Linton Lodge 560 will hold a past master degree Thursday. Dinner at 6 p.m. and work at 7 p.m. All past masters are invited to attend.

Shelter reservations

The city of Linton will start booking city park shelter reservations on Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, barring inclement weather. The mayor's office will be open at 8:30 a.m. Reservations will be taken in the order the person arrives and a number will be available at the customer service window. You may pick up an application at that time and have it partially filled out allowing the line to move faster. Application must be filled out and payment must be made when the reservation is confirmed. Rotary Club will be having the 2009 Rotary races in the city park Sept. 19 and 20 and all shelters will be closed for that weekend. The Music Fest will be held in the city park on Aug. 28-30, closing the shelter houses also. Please be advised that the city has permanent bookings each year. These reservations must be confirmed to the mayor's office by Dec. 30, 2008. If you cannot come in on the scheduled day you may call in after 1 p.m. on Jan. 2 and schedule your reservations by phone.

Christmas Cantata

The Pleasantville United Methodist Church will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 21.

Bloomfield board to meet

The Bloomfield School Board will meet in special session today at 7:30 p.m. in the junior high conference room. On the agenda is to hire a junior/senior high school principal.

Library board to meet

The Linton Public Library Board of Trustees will host its regular board meeting today 6 p.m. at the Linton Public Library. It will be preceded by an executive session meeting at 5:45 p.m. to discuss employee job performance. The regular board meeting is open to the public.

Greene County Singles

The Greene County Singles will host a dance and dinner Saturday at the Greene County Extension Building at Switz City. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m., and dance from 8-11 p.m. Admission is $5 with a food item, $6 with a 2 liter soda or $7 empty-handed. For more information call 825-4032.

Mobile recycling center at Wal-Mart

The Greene County Recycling Center's mobile pickup trailer is now stationed at the Linton Super Wal-Mart store. The facility is located on the east end of the parking lot and will remain at that site until about noon on Wednesday.

Candlelight service planned

Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church, four miles south of State Road 54 on State Road 57, will host a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service on Dec. 24 at 11:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Story Times at the Bloomfield Library

The Bloomfield Library will have a special Christmas Tots Time at 10:30 a.m. today for children ages 2-3 years. No registration is required. The library will have Preschool Storytime at 10:30 a.m. Thursday for children ages 4-6 years. The theme will be, "I want to be ... Santa's Elf." No registration is required. Story times are canceled if school is canceled due to weather.

WRV School Board

The White River Valley Board of School Trustees will meet in regular session at 6 p.m. Thursday in the library of the Lyons Elementary School. An executive session will precede the open meeting at 5 p.m. to discuss personnel issues.

2009 Goose Pond calendars

The 2009 Goose Pond calendar is available for sale at Main Street Gifts in Linton and the Greene County Community Learning Center at White River Valley Junior-Senior High School in Switz City. The calendars showcase area winners of the first annual Goose Pond Photo contest. Calendars are a fundraiser for the Friends of Goose Pond and sell for $10. Calendars can also be shipped to out of state locations by contacting friendsofgoosepond@yahoo.com .

Deadline for spring semester classes

The deadline to register for spring semester classes at the Greene County Community Learning Center is Thursday. Vincennes University will be offering English Comp I, Beginning Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, and American History I. Ivy Tech Community College will be offering Medical Terminology. Coin Club to meet

Greene County Coin Club will meet at 7 p.m. today at the 4-H Building. There will be a Christmas party prior to the meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Calvary Baptist Church

The Calvary Baptist Church will present "The Carols of Christmas" at 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 21 -- with a cast of 20 to perform. The church will celebrate Christmas during both morning and evening services on Dec. 21 -- with Pastor John Riker/staff presenting the teen/children Christmas program at 7 p.m. Calvary is located just east of Linton on State Road 54. Nurseries will be provided and transportation may be obtained by calling 847-7110.

Folsom Memorial United Methodist Church

Folsom Memorial United Methodist Church will host a "Longest Night Service" at 7 p.m. on Dec. 21 with the focus on those whose holiday celebrations are also seasons of loss and remembrance. Everyone is welcome. The church will also host a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at 9 p.m. on Dec. 24. The church is located at the corner of Main and Lafayette Streets in Worthington.

Greene County Humane Society

Greene County Humane Society's Annual Stuff a Stocking is now under way. Items needed for the animals include Chew Hides, toys, stuffed animals and treats. Cleaning supplies such as Pine-Sol, paper towels, baking soda and laundry soap are also needed.

Delta Theta Tau Omicron Rho

Delta Theta Tau Omicron Rho is selling homemade chip beef, old English, cherry and cherry chocolate cheese balls for $5 each. For more information call 798-2465.

Lyons Senior Center

The Lyons Senior Center will host a pancake and sausage breakfast and bake sale from 7 - 10 a.m. on Dec. 20. Homemade noodles will be available for purchase and the raffle drawing will also be held. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. You need not be present to win. The center's hours have changed and are now 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Monday through Friday.

Gospel and Christmas songs

Gospel and Christmas songs will be played at 7 p.m. today at the Hymera Independent Community Church. There will be an open microphone and free chili.

House of Grace

House of Grace Coffee House will offer fellowship, food, worship and youth classes. The church is located at 792 S. Section St. in Dugger.

Central Greene County

Ministerial Association

In a truly ecumenical spirit, the Central Greene County Ministerial Association pastors are approaching the Advent season in a fresh way. They will be preaching on four common themes during the season, focusing on significant proclamations in the Christmas story. The last scheduled theme is "Peace, Good Will to Man" (Dec. 21)

Pleasantville food pantry

The Pleasantville United Methodist Church food pantry is now open on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 10:30 a.m. - noon.

Holiday Happenings at the library

Children and their parents can now sign up for the Bloomfield Library's Family Reading Program that runs now through Jan. 31. Each Monday in December there will be a "make and take" craft table set up in the children's area with a holiday craft. Children can drop in any time and make one of the weekly activities. Crafts will include, ornaments, greeting cards and more. Also watch for a Holiday Scavenger Hunt over Christmas break.

Tri Kappa cheese balls

Linton Tri Kappa has cheese balls for sale. Cheese balls with nuts are $6.50 and plain are $6. Contact Beth Gillan at 847-2010 or any Tri Kappa member to purchase a cheese ball.

Sonshine Shop

The Greene County Soil Waste Management District and Recycling Center is partnering with the Sonshine Shop on 14 N. Washington St. in Worthington. There will be a collection site starting Monday for paper, books, magazines, plastic, aluminum cans, steel food cans and cardboard located in the back of the Sonshine Shop by the blue building. Residents are asked to drop off recyclable materials only and do not leave trash at this site.

Worthington Senior Citizens

The Worthington Senior Center is selling persimmon pulp. Cost is $4 for a two-cup package. Call 875-2525 or 875-2012 to order.

Worthington Tri-Kappa taking orders

The Worthington Chapter of Tri Kappa is taking pre-orders for Uncle Al's Pecans and Candies, cheeseballs, and soups. The cheeseballs are $5 each for either chipped beef or cheddar. The soups choices are chili, vegetable, potato, and ham and bean. The soups are $4 per quart. The cheeseballs and soups will be made by the Tri Kappa members. GED preparation classes

Turning Point Education Center in Switz City is offering GED preparation classes. Class times are available Monday through Friday from 8:15 to 11:15 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays 5 - 8 p.m. Interested students may contact Misty Hunt at 659-2533 for program information and enrollment requirements.

Greene County Soil & Water Conservation district is redirecting Clean Water Indiana Grant Funds to provide assistance for sediment and nutrient flood damage projects not covered under Farm Service Agency or Natural Resource Conservation programs. GED testing

GED testing for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is given on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month at the Greene County Community Learning Center housed at White River Valley High School. Those wishing to take the exam must register in person, one week prior to the exam and present three pieces of ID including one photo ID. Lyons Senior Citizens center

The Lyons Senior Citizens Center, 150 N. Jefferson St., now has wooden toy crafts for sale. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Lyons First Christian Church youth group

The Lyons First Christian Church youth group meets at 6 p.m. on Mondays at the church's East Broad Street location.

Dugger Legion to meet

The Rexford Ballard American Legion Post 224 will meet the first Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

Jasonville Senior center update

The Jasonville Senior Citizen Center, located at 145 S. Lawton, has opened a country store and gift shop. It will be open from 9 a.m.-noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All proceeds will benefit the senior center. For more information, call the center at 665-9882.

Wig bank

The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield. Narcotics Anonymous

Narcotics Anonymous will meet Saturdays at 7 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church on State Road 54 East. There will be open discussion and all are welcome.

Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m.

Bloomfield Food pantry

The Refuge Assembly of God food pantry will be open every Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. to assist those living in Bloomfield. To donate, please contact Trina at 384-8093 during the pantry's open hours.
