Linton woman faces drug charges

Monday, December 15, 2008

Deborah D. Dicus, 45, Linton, was arrested Saturday on charges involving the sale of controlled substances.

According to a police report, Dicus has been the subject of an ongoing investigation since at least August.

In a probable cause affidavit filed in Greene Superior Court, Linton Police Department Det. Josh Goodman details two controlled drug buys which led to the arrest.

In both, Dicus is accused of selling 20 white pills stamped 2410 to a confidential informant for $20. The pills were identified as a Schedule IV controlled substance called carisoprodol. Both transactions took place at a residence in northwest Linton she shares with a boyfriend.

The affidavit states he was present during the transactions and was believed to be aware that controlled substances were being sold from the residence.

Goodman made the arrest with assistance from LPD Det. Duane Collenbaugh and Officer Heath Murray.

Dicus appeared at an initial hearing Monday afternoon. She is charged with two class C felony counts of dealing in a Schedule IV controlled substance and one class D felony count of maintaining a common nuisance. The charges were filed and an arrest warrant was issued Friday.

As of late Monday, Dicus remained in the Greene County Jail in lieu of $24,000 bond.

Out of curiosity, do so many people really have pain issues that puts this many pills available on the street, or is there a common doctor in all of the pill stories that is prescribing them like candy? We all read about these stories it seems about every day.

Is she related to Andy Dicus?

I work in a pharmacy and have for about 15 years...some doctors don't care as long as they get their office call...there are a few good doctors out there. Patients will hop from doctor to doctor until they get what they are looking for...some get controlled drugs from multiple doctors... it is a full time job for pharmacists to look out for false or altered prescriptions. There has been a dramatic increase in prescription drug misuse or abuse. Many people use controlled substances for legitimate health problems, but then they get addicted and start abusing them. It is a huge problem.

Don't think it is just a full time job for the pharmacies. The Doctors and their staff spend alot time on the phones and by other means trying to play detective to try and keep up with everyone. Some of people are legitimate, but the seekers make it bad for everyone, starting from being the legitimate patient, to the Doctor, and from the Doctor, to either the Pharmacy or the Hospital. It is a very large problem, no matter where you want to point the finger, but, before you point it, remember, there is always someone on the other end. Also, try as hard as we all might, there are always people out there to try to find a way around the system and the rules.

Dear kids--

i understand that as this woman's child you may feel the need to present another side defending her behavior, but this is not the way for you to go. I am a former addict and we can all find ways to justify our destructive behaviors. Your mother broke the law and now she must pay for it. I was only able to get sober after many times of being incarcerated. It may be a blessing in disguise. Every day is another day for me to go "use" or to stay sober. After 7 years of liberty, it is an easy choice. It is always about choices...your mother will hopefully discover that. Lift her up in prayer.
