Sandborn Council president announces his resignation

Tuesday, December 2, 2008

Sandborn Council President Don Hill surprised members of the Town Council with a letter of resignation at Tuesday evening's meeting.

Hill said he had enjoyed the several years he had served the town and had been a member of the council during some major decisions such as the sewer project.

"However, I have served a long time and need a break. It is time to go," Hill said.

A representative from Board One will be appointed to chair a meeting, and names will be accepted to be voted on by the people of that district to replace Hill.

Continuing with business, the board accepted the bid from W.E. Creek Maintenance Service to install a roll-up door at the concrete building near the sewer plant.

Clerk-Treasurer Linda Hancock presented a bid from Diamond Cabinet Company for cabinets in the board room. Hill suggested that the council wait for other bids so comparisons could be made.

Hancock also announced that there would be a public meeting at 6 p.m., Dec. 11 to discuss a water rate change.

Reporting for the park board, Jeni Brewster said the Christmas lights were up and would be turned on during the soup dinner and Santa's visit on Dec. 6.

Brewster suggested and the board agreed that, to save electricity, the Christmas lights should be turned off at 10 p.m. on week nights but left on longer during the weekends and on Christmas Eve and Christmas night.

Brewster also said that more people are needed on the park board, and if anyone has any suggestions for a new member to let her know.

Reporting for Water Superintendent Cliff Pemberton, Hancock said 876,000 gallons of water were used in Sandborn during the month of November, averaging to 29,000 gallons a day.

Cliff Pemberton, Jr. said he had used the backhoe several places in town. He also reported that the sewer discharged 514,400 gallons during November, averaging to 17,146 gallons a day.

In other business, the board signed a release to send a request to the Department of Local Finance for additionals and passed the 2009 budget with no changes from 2008.

The board will meet at 6 p.m., Dec. 11 for a special public meeting.

The Sandborn Town Board's next regular meeting is at 6 p.m. Jan. 6, 2009.
