Duck/turkey hunt

A duck/turkey hunt for youth ages 15 years and under will be held Oct. 18 at Minnehaha Fish and Wildlife Area. Sign-in at the property check station on the day of hunt. Lunch served at 11 a.m., with door prizes. For further details call 268-5640.

Newberry Waterworks

Maintenance on Newberry Waterworks is scheduled for the next two weeks. Water pressure may be low.

Sausage and pancake breakfast/bake sale

A sausage and pancake breakfast will be held from 7 - 10 a.m. Oct. 18 at the Lyons Senior Center. Donations accepted. A bake sale will also be held in conjunction with the breakfast and the homemade quilt will be raffled off. Raffle tickets are still available for purchase. Call 659-2184 for details.

LSHS Band Boosters

The Linton-Stockton High School Band Boosters will also hold a Jonah Fish Fry fundraiser from 4 - 8 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Roy Clark Community Building on the northside of Humphreys Park.

Northeast School Board

The Northeast School Board will meet for its regular session at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the administrative building in Hymera.

Four Rivers Board of Directors

The Four Rivers Board of Directors will meet at 6 p.m. Oct. 16 in the conference room of the regional office located on State Road 59 South in Linton.

Worthington recycle items

drop off starts Monday

The Greene County Soil Waste Management District and Recycling Center is partnering with the Sonshine Shop on 14 N. Washington St. in Worthington. There will be a collection site starting Monday for paper, books, magazines, plastic, aluminum cans, steel food cans and cardboard located in the back of the Sonshine Shop by the blue building. Residents are asked to drop off recyclable materials only and do not leave trash at this site.

GCA to meet Oct. 16

The Greene County Alliance for Networking and Growth (GCA) will meet Oct. 16 at the Main Street Cafe in Worthington. Arrival time is 11:30 with the meeting starting at noon. Reservations need to be made to Nancy Cummings by Tuesday October 15. She can be reached at greenetobaccofree@sbcglobal.net. The program for the day is the Southern Indiana Meth Alliance (SIMA).

Holiday Bazaar Nov. 1

Beta Sigma Phi's Holiday Bazaar will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Linton-Stockton High School Auditeria. Admission is free. Food, raffles, and a wide variety of unique gift and craft items will be available.

Organization workshop

The Greene County Community Learning Center will hold an organization workshop from 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 23 and 30. Cost is $10. Call 659-3862 to sign up.

LSHS class of 1953

Recycling Center closure

In observance of Columbus Day, the Greene County Recycling Center will be closed today and Monday.

Bloomfield NARFE

Bloomfield National Active and Retired Federal Employees will meet Tuesday at Stoll's in Linton with lunch at 11:30 a.m. and meeting to follow at 12:30 p.m. A Blue Cross representative will speak.

Greene County Historical Society

The Greene County Historical Society will meet from 2- 4 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Worthington School cafeteria. This meeting will focus on the town of Worthington's past. A panel of locals will speak and Terresa Thompson will present a power point presentation.

Mineral United Methodist Church

The Mineral United Methodist Church will hold a mini-revival at 7 p.m. Oct. 16-17 to introduce new Pastor Lee Bahney.

Woodworkers club

The Woodworkers club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the at Shakamak Elementary School library. Popcorn and coffee will be served.

Hendricksville Area Association

The Hendricksville Area Association yearly business meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the community center. Election of officers will take place.

Bloomfield Fire Department open house

In celebration of its new fire truck, the Bloomfield Fire Department will hold an open house from 4-8 p.m. Nov. 1 at the station. A homemade chicken and noodle dinner will be served from 5-7 p.m. for a freewill donation with delivery option available. Call the station at 384-8646 or 227-1819 for delivery.

Annual bean supper

Koleen Union Church, Koleen will hold its annual bean supper Oct. 17. Menu includes ham and beans, cornbread, fried potatoes, cole slaw, dessert, coffee, tea, and lemonade. Free will offering.

S.R. 59 to be closed

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces that State Road 59 will be closing in Linton. Working in conjunction with Indiana Railroad officials, INDOT will be closing S.R. 59 from the junction of State Road 67 in Sandborn to the junction of State Road 54 in downtown Linton. Indiana Railroad will be rebuilding its crossing, .28 mile south of the S.R. 54 junction. Crews will begin reconstruction of the crossing Oct. 20 at approximately 7 a.m. Reconstruction of the crossing will last through the end of the day Oct. 24. No through vehicle traffic will be allowed, however local residents will have access to the point of closure. All lanes of traffic will be closed at the crossing.

Greene-Sullivan Education to meet

The meeting of the executive board of the Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative will meet in executive session to discuss confidential student records, information about prospective employees Oct. 14 at 8:30 a.m. with the regular meeting to follow at 10 a.m.

Chili supper set for Nov. 1

Dailey & Vincent will appear at Solsberry Christian Church at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 9. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. The church is located one mile east of Solsberry on the old portion of State Road 43. Worthington Tri-Kappa taking orders

The Worthington Chapter of Tri Kappa is taking pre-orders for Uncle Al's Pecans and Candies, cheeseballs, and soups. The cheeseballs are $5 each for either chipped beef or cheddar. The soups choices are chili, vegetable, potato, and ham and bean. The soups are $4 per quart. The cheeseballs and soups will be made by the Tri Kappa members. Fish fry at Bicknell

The Bicknell Volunteer Fire Department will host a fish fry Oct. 18 at 5 p.m. at the fire station. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children 8 and under.

Bloomfield fundraiser

The Bloomfield High School Class of 2010 Post Prom Committee will host a Designer Purse Bingo today at the Linton National Guard Armory located on State Road 54 East. Doors open at 5 p.m. with games beginning at 6 p.m. Concessions will be available during the evening. Tickets are $10 for 20 games with the coverall game available for an additional $5. Tickets will be available at the door with advance tickets available at Bloomfield State Bank-Main Office, Bloomfield State Bank-Linton Banking Center, Hartman & Paddock Law Office in Bloomfield and the Bloomfield High School Library/Media Center. An Early Bird Game is included with each advance ticket purchase. Several raffles, including a 50/50 raffle, and drawings will be conducted during the games. LSHS 2009/Parent Club

The LSHS Class of 2009 and Parents Club is selling Miner discount cards for $5. These cards are available from senior students and parents, and offer valuable discounts from local businesses. The senior parents are selling chances for a handmade walking stick crafted by Ralph Fulford, grandfather of Jacob Tibbett. It is decorated with Linton Miner music and athletic carvings. These chances are $1 each and 6 for $5. Miner cards and chances for the walking stick are also available at all home football games.

Youth Alive '08

Blessed Hope Baptist Church is hosting "Youth Alive '08" on Oct. 12-15. Sunday and Wednesday services will be at the Blessed Hope Baptist Church (located on State Road 59, 1/4 mile south of Jasonville) while the Monday and Tuesday night services will be at the Linton National Guard Armory on State Road 54. The football theme is "Get Your Game On!" The services will start at 7 nightly and end at 8:30 p.m. The services at the armory will include free food, competitions, prizes (including autographed Peyton Manning gear, Xbox 360 with Madden '09, NFL jerseys, footballs, and more!). Any area league or public school football player who wears his jersey will receive a special prize. Reno Likins, a renowned youth speaker from Hot Springs, Ark., will be the guest each evening. Harvest Days

Harvest Days have come to Blessed Hope Baptist Church. There is a special Sunday planned every week for the month of October. Sunday is "TNT" (Teens Need Truth) Sunday and will also kick off the Youth Alive '08 Conference, which will continue nightly through Oct. 15. Oct. 19 is "Friends and Family" Sunday. Blessed Hope will conclude this month of special Sundays with "Red, White, and Blue" Sunday as we take this Sunday to honor our police, firefighters, and EMTs. The Marco High School reunion will be at 6:30 p.m today at the White River Valley Lyons Elementary School. Drinks and table service furnished. Class of 1958 will be honored.

GED preparation classes

Turning Point Education Center in Switz City is offering GED preparation classes. Central class of 1983 reunion

The Central High School Class of 1983 will celebrate its 25th year class reunion today at the Canyon Inn, McCormicks Creek State Park (Spencer). GED testing

GED testing for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is given on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month at the Greene County Community Learning Center housed at White River Valley High School. Those wishing to take the exam must register in person, one week prior to the exam and present three pieces of ID including one photo ID.
