JASPER -- Derek Corn, Bloomfield's No. 1 singles player lost in the first round of the Individual Singles Sectional tournament to Southridge's NIck Olinger 6-4, 6-0 at Jasper Wednesday evening.

It was a battle between two similar players; both hitting high looping, deep balls. The first game set the tone for the rest of the match. It took almost 25 minutes to complete with several rallies going 25 to 30 returns. In the end it was Olinger's consistency that won out. Corn tried to force the issue by hitting hard, deep approach shots but the ball kept coming back. Even though it was just a two set match it took over two hours to complete.

Corn, a junior, finishes the season with a 18-4 record.
