Playing in front of her home crowd for the final time in her high school volleyball career, Megan Barnes came up with a big night in leading Linton-Stockton over Bloomfield here Monday night, 25-19, 25-10, 25-20 With the win the Lady Miners remain perfect in Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference play (5-0) and improve to 18-8 overall on the season.
The Cardinals fall to 8-17, 4-3.
After the Lady Cardinals raced out to an early 10-5 behind six straight points on serve from Kelsie Spelts, Barnes ignited the Lady Miners offense with eight straight points of her own from the service line. The rally quickly shifted the momentum over to the home teams side.
"Megan is my most experienced player out on the court," Lady Miners coach Penny Dunn said of her senior CO-captain. "She had a huge night leading us in serves and kills. She has such a calming effect on the rest of the girls."
For the match, Barnes missed just two of 21 serves, recording match-highs in points (17) and kills (15).
"They are just a good team," Lady Cardinals coach Jennifer Heaton said. "And they also possess a great hitter in the Barnes girl. She had a great night for them."
Barnes also recorded five aces for the night.
Kelsy Foglesong would serve the final two points in game one for the Miners and senior Taneal Church recorded the kill to end the game. Church would finish with four kills on the night.
"Taneal played a good game tonight," Dunn said. "We moved her around a little bit tonight and played her on the outside and she responded well."
The host Miners would carry the momentum from the opening game into the second game, overpowering the visiting Cardinals in the middle stanza.
In game two, the Lady Miners were a perfect 24-for-24 from the service line. For the night, Linton-Stockton connected on 95 percent (70-for-74) from serve.
"This was one of the best nights we have had serving this season," Dunn said. "We had a lot of key aces. We want to put pressure on the other team with hard serves and made it difficult for them to run their offense. Tonight we did that."
Dunn also lauded the performance of senior Izzy Carpenter for her perfect night on serve (7-for-7, four points and two aces).
"Izzy really picked up her serving tonight," Dunn said. "She had been working on hitting harder serves and tonight she really made them scramble with her serves."
Heaton chalked the loss up no not responding well to the serves.
"We started out good tonight, but then we just kind of relaxed," Heaton said of the start. "Then we just wasn't ready to pass tonight. Lot of miscommunication, nobody was talking to each other tonight."
Heaton also eluded to the fact the team had not practice since last Thursday due to not being able to be in the gym due to the Apple Festival.
Leairra Thompson led the Lady Cardinals at the net with a team-high of 10 kills. Elyse Weddle chipped in with six kills while Sarah Scott recorded four kills in the loss.
The Spelts sisters -- Kelsie and Kendra -- each posted perfect nights on serve (10-for-10) and combined for 11 points.
Shelby Gott registered a team-high of eight points from the line on 12 of 13 serving including three aces.
Holly Zschiedrich added six points on 9 of 10 service with one ace.
Savannah Mason (10 of 10, eight points and four aces), Kelsey Foglesong (10 of 10 and seven points), Samantha Butt (6 of 6, three points and two aces) and Jannae Jackson (2 of 2, one point) were all perfect on serve. Butt also contributed with two kills.
Sophomore Bradlea Beard misfired on just two of her 15 serves, good for 10 points, including four aces, while seniors Tricia Emmons added three kills and Brittany Rehmel contributed with two kills.
"Tricia did not get a lot of swings in tonight, but the ones she did hit she hit really hard," Dunn said.
The Miners junior varsity also won their contest, 25-17, 25-15. Linton-Stockton got two aces, seven kills and five digs from Alex Daluga. Kelsey Andis had four digs and Kayla Cox recorded one ace, six assists, five kills and a dig.
Jackson had two aces, four kills and one dig. Hali Murray contributed three aces, nine assists, one kill and one dig. Foglesong added two aces and two digs.
Linton-Stockton will travel to Edgewood Tuesday night, while the Lady Cardinals will be back in action on the court when the host Brown County Thursday.

and the scores of each game should be added. sorry about that as well.
Congrats Lady Miners
Great Job Lady Miners!!!
Can we get a score? Break down of each set? I realize Linton won, but was it close?
If I'm not mistaken, wasn't Mason a freshman last year or am I thinking of someone else?
