The road re-opened about 12:20 p.m. Tuesday following an early morning traffic accident that knocked down several utility poles, according to the Greene County Sheriff's Department.
At 3:54 a.m. Tuesday, a 1997 Mack semi truck driven by Michael Woodward, of Jeffersonville, was traveling east on State Road 54 when a tire dropped off the roadway east of Sharkey Curve -- about six miles east of Bloomfield. The driver over-corrected and veered off the road -- knocking down several electrical power and telephone lines, according to a news release from the sheriff's department.
Woodward was transported to Greene County General Hospital in Linton following the crash with non-life threatening injuries, according to the sheriff's department.
If they work for state agencies and know there is a possiblity they can be called out at anytime for anything, shouldn't they be prepared? Like maybe keeping a uniform in their vehicle (if it is a state owned vehicle). Better yet, "if we all lived in a perfect world" why don't they designate one or two vehicles as "emergency" vehicles and keep all supplies on the truck. Then, all they have to do is wake up, call someone to assist go pick up the truck, or have it designated to the person on call and they would take that vehicle home with them when they are on call and bam - they are there in a short amount of time.
i think that "school fan" and mainly "whocares" need to get a life it just so happens that my relative is the supervisor for the highway dept. and he has to drive from jasonville which take approx. 45min. if they hurry plus the time to get on their uniform, notify someone to go and assist, plus stop at the unit garage to get the supplies in order to clean up the scene. Also i am related to 2 people that work at the fire dept. that responded to the call. So if u think that it is that easy id like to see you do it just once!
The state highway was called out at approximately 4:00 a.m., but didn't show up until 7:30 a.m.
There should have been more warning signs down the road from the accident, to warn drivers of the problem near Sharkey Curve. I got upon it and had to turn around and go back to find a road to detour.
I want to say good job to REMC, my power went off and they worked hard and had it back up by the time I got up to go to work at 6:30, and a big thanks to the police and firemen that did a great job. Thats alot of hours spent out there making sure everyone else is safe.
