LPD needs help to solve Sunday theft of cigarettes

Monday, September 29, 2008

The Linton Police Department would like to get a tip about the identity of two guys who distracted a cashier and walked out of a Linton gas station with five cartons of cigarettes Sunday night.

Both men were wearing their hats turned sideways.

Two white males estimated to be 19-20 years old went into the Fast Point Gas Station at approximately 11:55 p.m. and asked a cashier for four cartons of Marlboro Reds and one carton of Newport cigarettes.

According to the police report, the cashier brought the cigarettes to the counter and laid them down. One of the males then asked for another item and when the cashier turned around, the two males grabbed the cartons and ran out the door. They headed east as they fled then turned south on 8th St.

One of the suspects was described as a white male approximately 5 foot, 6 inches tall with dark hair, dark eyes and a thin build. He was wearing a black tee-shirt, baggy jeans and a hat turned sideways. He had "hickeys" on his neck.

The other suspect was described as a white male approximately 5-9 tall with light brown hair and a thin build. He was wearing a white tank top, plaid baggy shorts and a white hat turned sideways. His front tooth was chipped.

LPD Cpl. Chad Crynes is the investigating officer with assistance from Officer Jayson Smith.

Anyone with information about these suspects or this incident is asked to call the Linton Police Department at 847-4411 or leave a tip by calling Greene County Crime Stoppers at 812-TIP-LINE.

fair for linton , did you ever stop to think that they have better leads on the other cases and as far as looking on the video tape...maybe they have looked and still arent sure who they are....they have got to have enough proof before they can make an arrest...so lay off..i dont see you doing anything to help solve any of these crimes.

Troy, Your people are doing a great job! The LPD has done more to combat the meth problems and the thefts that go along with that than any other area agency. We are fortunate in Linton to have a dedicated group of people that only want to make the community safe. The LPD makes the best of what resources are available and is probably the best police department in the area. I often see a lot of criticism on here about the department. How many of you that are so critical of them take an active role in helping them? These officers are not just city employees they are members of our community that want their own families to be safe as well as our own. Quit your griping and start helping by reporting what you see and hear. Simple things like knowing your neighbors well and being observant can go a long way. They cannot be everywhere or solve every crime alone. The LPD deserves our support and our help after all they are always there for us.

I gave this information to the paper because we do not recognize the subjects involved. I had hoped that maybe some helpful citizen out there might recognize the description of the persons listed above. This is one of those cases where I think from the description we have someone could very easily recognize them and help solve the case quickly. Therefore we can spend more time on other cases. As for the other I will make no comment as to where the investigation is going except that we are working on it as well. Finally, if it were your items taken I think you might want it solved or at least an effort made.

Thank You for your support

Troy Jerrell

I agree with keninman for once. They better make sure of their step because they'll meet the wrong end of a gun in many homes. There will be no such thing as parole in those cases.

This is a good story to run because there is a good description of the two young men. Perhaps someone will read this and give the police a tip.

Perhaps someone will turn in these fools.

Did anyone stop to think they ran out of cigarettes in between breaking into houses or stealing trailers? A lot of times these thieves are one in the same. They don't care if they're stealing smokes or trailers.

"Come on people, lets catch the ones that are stealing the trailers and breaking into peoples homes."

Perhaps they are hoping some home owner or farmer will catch them first, then the county will not have to pay for a trial or incarceration. :)

No mention of all the flat bed or pull behind trailers being stolen here in town....hmmm... I wonder why they are not asking for help with them cases..??? I must say, the priorities are set!!! They should be able to roll the video tape and see who the thiefs are!! Come on people, lets catch the ones that are stealing the trailers and breaking into peoples homes.
