Shakamak spikers now 8-3

The Shakamak Lakers volleyball team finished up the week by splitting a pair of matches. The Lady Lakers dropped a straight game match to Sullivan on Tuesday night 25-18, 25-21, 25-12 before posting a win over North Knox Thursday night 25-22, 22-25, 25-16, 25-11. With the split, the Lakers are now 8-3 on the season.

Against Sullivan, Amanda Gilbert recorded a team-high 19 assists to go along with four digs, two kills and four points on 10 of 11 from the service line.

Jess Gilbert led the team with nine kills in the loss, while Marki Collins had a team high of 14 digs.

Freshman Mikayla Crane was perfect on serve, connecting on all 10 of her attempts, good for seven points including one ace.

Holli Moore added nine digs, while Kelsey Farris registered five points on 7 of 8 serving from the service line.

Against North Knox, Amanda Gilbert paced the Lady Lakers with a team-high 34 assists, and recorded a perfect night from the service line (21 of 21) with 11 points and two aces.

Older sister Jess, paced the team at the net, with 15 kills while Marki Collins also took advantage of great passing from the younger Gilbert, by chipping in with nine kills.

Stacey Durham was second on the team with nine points on 14 of 15 from the service line, while Crane and Moore each recorded five kills. Moore also added eight digs in the win.

The Lady Lakers also picked up a win in the junior varsity contest against the Warriors, 25-14, 25-21.

Shakamak will be back in action today participating in the Shoals Round Robin.
