A Jonah Fish Fry to benefit several area organizations will be conducted Sept. 19 at the Knights of Columbus building in Linton. The fish fry will be from 4-7 p.m. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children aged three to 12. Groups benefiting from the proceeds will be St. Peter Youth Group, the Linton National Guard Family Readiness Group, Linton Junior Class, Cub Scout Pack 499, Pregnancy Choices, Greene County Crime Stoppers, Bloomfield Holy Name Youth Group, Linton Community Food Pantry and Boy Scout Troop 407 of Linton. Hunter's Education

Hunter Education Course will be held Sept. 13-14 at Archer's Spot & Pro Shop, located five miles east of Bloomfield on State Road 54. Instructor will be Mr. Paul Wisley. Instruction will begin Saturday at 11a.m. and dismiss at approximately 5 p.m. Wisley will inform participants the beginning time on Sunday. Mr. Wisley teaches Hunter Education at Archer's Spot on an annual basis.

LCC Comprehensive Plan Retreat

The Local Coordinating Council of the Greene County Substance Abuse Task Force is hosting a Comprehensive Plan Retreat in order to receive input to develop a 3-year comprehensive plan to address substance abuse in Greene County. It will be held September 8 at the Purdue Extension/4H office, from 6 -- 8 PM. A light meal and networking are scheduled from 5:30 -- 6, prior to the retreat. Free Tobacco Cessation Class Starting

A new tobacco cessation class is scheduled to begin September 30. Classes are scheduled for Tuesday evenings from 6 -- 8 PM for 8 -- 10 weeks. Sessions will be held at the Gr. Co. General Hospital Meeting Room, near the cafeteria on the lower level. Free nicotine replacement therapy for participants will, once again, be provided by Gr. Co. Health Department. Free cessation classes are a collaborative effort of Gr. Co. Tobacco Prevention and Cessation, Gr. Co. Home Health Care, Gr. Co. General Hospital, and Gr. Co. Health Department. LSHS 2010 parents club

The Linton-Stockton High School class of 2010 parents club will sell grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, brats, ribeye sandwiches and baked goods at every varsity football home game. Proceeds go to prom and grand march.

Nicholson benefit

A benefit for the children of Jarrett "JJ" Nicholson will start at noon on Saturday at Eddee's Bar None in Switz City. The benefit will include entertainment, food and a 50/50 auction. All proceeds and donations will be divided evenly between four children and put into trust funds.

Cover is $5 and includes lunch.

Three short computer classes and a Beginning Spanish class are on the schedule for September at the Greene County Community Learning Center housed at White River Valley High School in Switz City. Computing Fundamentals will show the beginning computer user the basics steps to understanding and using their computer including Microsoft Windows XP, using e-mail and the Internet. The class begins September 10 and meets for four Wednesday evenings from 6- 9 p.m.. Cost is $55. For those who are familiar with the computer but want to know how to create a database, run queries and produce reports a Beginning Microsoft Access class will be held for three Thursday evenings starting September 11. Cost is $129.50 A one-day workshop on Microsoft Word's mail merge feature will be held Thursday, September 18 from 6-9 p.m. Cost is $30. A Beginning Conversational Spanish class will start on September 16 and meet for ten Tuesday evenings from 6-9 p.m. This class focuses on everyday phrases and vocabulary that can help the Spanish traveler or those who need to converse in Spanish. Women's group to meet

GED testing

GED testing for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is given on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month at the Greene County Community Learning Center housed at White River Valley High School.
