SWITZ CITY -- The youthful White River Valley boys tennis team once again ran into a more experienced team on the court Monday in the form of the Barr-Reeve Vikings. The home team dropped to 1-6 on the season with the 5-0 setback.
"We just ran into another very solid team tonight," White River Valley coach Daniel Crites said. "Some of the scores did not indicate just how hard my kids played tonight. I was pleased with our effort."
The only Wolverine senior on the roster, Evan Karr, lost at No. 1 singles in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. Crites mentioned Karr got off to a slow start in his match.
"Evan played pretty good tonight," Crites said. "It took him a little while to get going, but after he warmed up he really made their kid battle for the points."
Crites was also impressed with his freshman at No. 2 singles, Derek Myers. Myers was the only Wolverine not to get blanked in both sets, as he lost 6-1, 6-1.
"Derek played much better today than what he did over the weekend," Crites said. "He was serving a lot better and he really battled well."
The Wolverines were blanked in each of the doubles pairings and also at No. 3 singles.
WRV will be back in action on the courts today when they host Washington Catholic.
