Andy Goodman, of Bloomfield, will open Central Indiana Processing at 909 South Jefferson Street -- one block east of South Seminary Street.
This is Goodman's first business venture, but he said he's been researching the plan for several months -- establishing markets for the items he will accept.
Goodman, who will be the company's only employee, acknowledged recycling is a competitive business, but he feels there is a need for the service in the county.
"I've been looking at this for a while. I know what I'm doing and know what's going on and I'm going to make it go," he told the Greene County Daily World on Thursday.
When asked why he decided for forge ahead and start the business at this time, Goodman replied, "I decided to do it now because it's something I always wanted to do. I've been looking for two years for a place. I found one over the winter and been working on this project for about 10 months. We spent all summer repainting it and getting it ready to go."
He continued, "My main goal is to make a little bit (of money) and save the taxpayers a little bit."
The new business will accept bagged trash ($1.50 a bag), scrap metal, appliances, refrigerators, electronic equipment, paper, plastic, glass, aluminum cans, as well as auto, truck and farm tires.
Goodman also will offer salvage parts that will be gleaned from the recycled products.
There is also a consignment option that can be arranged.
No paints, chemicals or explosives will be accepted at the center.
Goodman said the tires can either be on or off the rims. Cost will be $2 for auto tires, $2.25 for truck tires and $7.25 for semi truck tires.
For now, Goodman said the center will be a drop-off location only, but he said a pick-up route might be added in the future.
"Hopefully, we're going to offer new programs as we go. There are some other things that we would like to do," he added. "We're going to start slow and we hope to expand soon."
When asked if his commercial company would be in competition with the Recycling Center operated by the Greene County Solid Waste Management District, Goodman said, "No, they are in competition with me. I'm not in competition with them."
Central Indiana Processing will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

I wonder if the glass accepted at the new facility will actually be recycled.
Recycling is something we all should do to save our enviroment for our children and grandchildren.
Is Goodman charging for taking recyclables, i.e., cans, newspapers, bottles, or paying for aluminum, paper and glass?
texas ranger, according to per moenia urbis you are very wrong in saying that recycling would lead to a cleaner, safer environment.
I think we as a society do need to do more recycling to protect our environment now and for future generations. It would be great if every town had a center and program for recycling. I lived in Germany twice and there was no choice but to recycle, they had seperate containers for paper, cardboard, plastic, green, brown, and white glass. anything else went into regular garbage. yes it takes a little more time to do , but the outcome would be worth it, A CLEANER, SAFER ENVIRONMENT.
I'm in Bloomfield, and would love a service that offered pick up.
Best of luck in your new venture!
per moenia urbis, How in the world can you say that recycling most items does more harm than good. Please explain this.
Unless they have people watching over them to many people abuse them for dumping trash, Eastern high school had the roll containers with divided bins, and had to remove them because people kept throwing bagged trash in them, but I agree more sites are needed, I myself think schools need to put bins out at sporting events to collect all the soda bottles, just a thought but at least it would be a start
It would be so nice if there were some sort of recycling dropoff in linton. It kinda defeats the purpose of recycling when you have to burn the gas to drive your trash halfway across the county.
Of course, nutzz6934, you know that recycling most items does more harm than good.
What a great idea, the more recycling spots in this county the better. As a community we need to recycle to make life better for years to come.
Keep up the good work and maybe recycling will catch on in Greene County like it has in neighboring counties.
