Lt. Bryan K. Woodall reported that one woman was transported to Bloomington Hospital with injuries following an accident at 10:15 a.m. involving two vehicles on State Road 45 and County Road 1225 East at the entrance to the Pinewood shopping area.
After rescue workers removed Rachel Love, 21, Bloomfield, from her vehicle, she complained of pain to the pelvic area and personnel from Bloomington Hospital Ambulance Service transported her to the hospital with possible fractures.
The other driver, Abigail Sachleben, 36, Bloomington, also complained of pain and was transported to the Monroe Hospital by personnel on Greene County Ambulance Service's Emergency One.
Before the accident both drivers were eastbound on S.R. 45 when Sachleben was stopped in a 2002 Toyota Corolla, attempting to make a left-hand turn into Pinewood.
Behind Sachleben, Love was driving a 2000 Ford Taurus.
Woodall reported that Love said she was in a hurry to get to school in Bloomington but was traveling around the speed limit. She did not see Sachleben's vehicle, she looked away and when she looked back, Sachleben's vehicle was stopped in front of her and she did not have time to react.
Sachleben stated she did not know what happened - she was stopped to turn left and all of a sudden she was hit and her vehicle went flying forward. Sachleben's driver's seat was broken as a result of the impact.
Both drivers told the officer they were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.
Woodall said an inspection found that Sachleben's left turn signal had been on and was working properly.
Besides the two ambulance services, Center Township Fire & Rescue and Bill's Auto assisted on the scene.
Woodall investigated another accident in the same area at 1:10 p.m. which resulted in a passenger being taken to the hospital. Two vehicles were involved at the intersection of S.R. 45 and 445.
Christopher Dzierba, 18, Bloomfield was eastbound in a 2001 Volvo on S.R. 45 approaching the intersection intending to travel west on S.R. 445.
Thomas Risinger, 72, Dugger, was eastbound in a 2004 Mercury Sable stationwagon on S.R. 445 approaching the intersection.
Dzierba stated he was turning and did not see Risinger's vehicle so he continued his turn and then drove into the side of the other vehicle. A witness said it did not looke like Dzierba slowed much and that he accelerated when he started to pull out.
Both drivers said they were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.
Dzierba's vehicle was able to be driven off but Risinger's vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
Emergency One from the Greene County Ambulance Service transported one person to Bloomington Hospital with complaints of pain to their lower back.
Besides the ambulance service, Center Township Fire & Rescue and Ray's Auto assisted on the scene.
Earlier in the day, Lt. Woodall also responded to an accident involving one vehicle on State Road 54, west of C.R. 950 E. around 5:50 a.m.
Willard Norris, 34, Bloomfield, was westbound on S.R. 54 in a 1997 Ford F-150 before he ended up off the road, upside down.
According to Woodall's report, Norris said he had fallen asleep and when he came to, he was upside down in his truck. It went off the north side of the roadway and hit an embankment - it overturned and came to rest on its top.
The driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and suffered only minor scrapes and bumps. He signed a release on the scene refusing medical treatment.
Emergency One from the Greene County Ambulance Service also responded along with Center Township Fire & Rescue. The vehicle was removed by Bay's Garage.
Woodall reported an investigation is still pending.
