American Latex reunion Sunday

The CWA Local 4711 Union picnic will be at noon Sept. 7 at the Vincennes Eagles Park on Willow Street. Meat will be provided. Please bring a covered dish.

Plenty of activities at the Newberry Festival

The annual Newberry Festival will be held Friday and Saturday. Karaoke is featured starting at 4:30 p.m. Friday in the park. The Newberry United Methodist Church will be selling food both days -- Friday (corn dogs, hot dogs and brownie delights), Saturday (pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, slaw, pies and ice cream). Also on Saturday morning the Newberry Nazarene Church will host a breakfast starting at 7 a.m. followed at 8 a.m. by a yard sale in the park -- sponsored by the Methodist Church. The Newberry Christian Church will also be selling Sloppy Joes at its food booth both days. The festival will conclude with a parade starting at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Truck and tractor pull Saturday

The Greene Çounty 4-H Council along with Mcallister Ag Machinery and various other businesses are sponsoring a truck and tractor pull on Saturday at the Greene County Fairgrounds. The pull, starting at 6 p.m., will have three tractor classes, a pair of sanctioned pickup classes and a semi truck class. All proceed go to the 4-H Council to continue funding the local 4-H programs. Admission is $8. A free kid's pedal tractor pull will be in the commercial building beginning at 5p.m.

Linton School Board

The Linton School Board will meet for a work session at 7 p.m. today to discuss buildings and grounds.

Greene County Singles

Greene County Singles will host a dance Saturday at the 4-H fairgrounds. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and dance from 8-11 p.m. Admission is $5 with one food item, $6 with a 2-liter soda or $7 empty-handed.

Slam/Jam! at Linton church

On Saturday, at Linton Assembly of God, the "Slam" Volleyball Tournament will start off the day. There will be free food served in the afternoon, a moonwalk for the kids, and the evening will conclude with a "Jam." The "Jam" concert will begin at 6 p.m. with Linton Assembly of God providing music, it will also feature a variety of music styles from local musicians including Master's Bouquet featured at 6:45 p.m., Bonnie Bland featured at 8:15 p.m., and Tony Kluesner will conclude the jam at 9 p.m. For more information contact Tonya in the church office at 847-7901.

Russ Watson in concert

The Linton Assembly of God will host Russ Watson in concert Sunday at 10:15 a.m. Watson has opened for many major artists through the years. His single "Spirit Song" topped the charts at No. 4 in March of this year and his latest single "It's Enough" is No. 18 in the nation in "The Power Source Magazine." Bloomfield class of 2003 reunion

Goals and Guidelines for the I-69 Corridor in Greene County public open house will be from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at Eastern Greene High School in the library. The community is invited to review and comment on goals and guidelines for future development along the proposed Interstate 69 Corridor.

Distinguished Shakamak Alumni

The JHS-SHS Alumni is taking nominations for this year's Distinguished Alumni. Please nominate any alumni you feel have distinguished themselves and their school through a service or contribution to community, country or mankind. You may re-nominate any alumni whom has not previously received the award.

Perennial Exchange

The fall plant swap will be Aug. 30 at the group camp mess hall at Shakamak State Park. The day begins at 7 a.m. with a continental breakfast and plant swap. Ryan Cummins and Karen Whorall will speak. Charge for half a day is $5 for the entire day it's $10. NARFE Chapter 1688

The Linton, Indiana, NARFE Chapter 1688 will meet at Stoll's Country Inn in Linton Aug. 25. The meal will start at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. The speaker will be Todd Walton of Welch & Cornett Funeral Home. Members are urged to attend.

Book sale

The Friends of the Bloomfield - Eastern Greene County Library will hold a book sale in the community room of the library at 125 S. Franklin Street on today from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. There will be a large selection of books for children and adults. Most paperbacks are 25˘, hardbacks 50˘, with a few collectible and premium books priced slightly higher. Profits will be used to provide programs and materials for the library. Please note the extended hours for this sale. Teen volunteers will take over the sale from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. and the money they make during this time period will be used to improve the Teen Room at the library.

LSHS Band and Miner Kadet Boosters

Parents will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 25 at the high school resource room. All band and kadet parents are encouraged to attend this first meeting of the year.

Movie at Linton library

Friends of the Linton Library will show the movie "Matilda" at 2 p.m. Saturday. Admission and concessions are free.

Homecoming softball

The 26th annual Jasonville-Shakamak High School Alumni Softball Tournament will be Sept. 27-28. If you are an alumni and want to play, registration deadline is Sept. 13 to form teams. If your class does not form a team by this date, your class cannot play in this year's tournament.

Internet workshop

A free parental Internet safety workshop will be from 7-8:30 p.m. on Aug. 25 at Blessed Hope Baptist Church in Jasonville. This presentation will show why parents must protect their children while using Internet communications, methods and means of various perpetrators, and where to find information and safeguards available for on-line protection for the family. This discussion is intended for adults only due to some of the concerns that will be presented. Childcare will be provided during the workshop. Blessed Hope Baptist Church is located on Highway 59, one mile south of Jasonville.

Linton trash pick-up reminder

Trash for pickup in the city Linton needs to be in place by 6 a.m. The schedule will change because of school and weather and having the trash out early will ensure pickup.

Pancake and sausage breakfast

The Lyons Senior Citizen Center will host a pancake and sausage breakfast and bake sale from 7 - 10 a.m. Saturday. Raffle tickets will also be sold for a handmade quilt that will be awarded at the October breakfast.

White River Valley Antique Association

The White River Valley Antique Association will host its annual antique show Sept. 5 at the Daviess County Fairgrounds in Elnora.

Free sign language class

The Worthington-Jefferson Township Library will offer a sign language 16-week course which will meet at 6 p.m. on Thursdays starting Sept. 4. Home-Canning Workshop

A Home-Canning Workshop will be at 6 p.m. on Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. in the Sandborn First Christian Church kitchen. Karel Kirschner of Knox County Purdue Extension will present a hands-on workshop to teach the basics of home canning, featuring tomato salsa in a hot-water canning bath, and green beans in the pressure canner. This workshop is for anyone who's interested in learning how to safely preserve fruits and vegetables at home. There will be recipes and canning tips available, and participants will be able to see what supplies and equipment are recommended for home canning. Space is limited to 12 participants, the cost per person is $3 to cover supplies. Contact Peggy Taylor at 694-8499 to register (before Aug. 22) so that enough supplies for each participant can be arranged. The church is located at 118 North Anderson Street, Sandborn.

Greene County Habitat for Humanity is currently set to build a home in Linton. It is taking applications for those who are interested in the home. The Scotland Festival is sponsoring a Little Mr. and Miss Scotland contest for boys and girls ages 3, 4 and 5. Switz City Volunteer Fire Department

The Switz City Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a fundraising program to raise money for needed equipment. Women's group to meet

A women's group will be held at the Worthington Assembly of God at 9 :30 a.m. on Sundays during the summer. During the school season, the group will meet from 10 a.m. - noon on the fourth Tuesday of each month. All women are welcome.

GED testing

GED testing for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is given on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month at the Greene County Community Learning Center housed at White River Valley High School. Those wishing to take the exam must register in person, one week prior to the exam and present three pieces of ID including one photo ID. Worthington Playground Fund

The staff members and students at White River Valley-Worthington Elementary School are raising funds to replace playground equipment in memory of former principal the late Larry Catron. Saron Church of Christ

Saron Church of Christ and St. Peter Catholic Church have combined their food pantries. The Linton Community Food Pantry is located at 440 E. St. NE (the former St. Peter Food Pantry). Lyons Senior Citizens center

The Lyons First Christian Church youth group meets at 6 p.m. on Mondays at the church's East Broad Street location.

Dugger Legion to meet

The Rexford Ballard American Legion Post 224 will meet the first and third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

Jasonville Senior center update

Wig bank

The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield. Bloomfield Food pantry
