Special Bloomfield School Board meeting Thursday

The Bloomfield Board of School Trustees will meet in special session at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to hire a junior/senior high school principal and a Title I instructional assistant. The meeting will be preceded by a 6:30 p.m. executive session. Both meetings will be in the junior high conference room.

Special Ed Coop meeting

The meeting of the Executive Board of the Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative will meet in Executive Session to discuss confidential student records, information about prospective employees on Friday, August 18, 2008 at 8:30 a.m. with the regular meeting to follow at 10 a.m. in the conference room at 77 "A" St., N.E., Linton.

Franklin family reunion

The descendants of James and Mary L. Franklin will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the west shelterhouse in Linton's Humphreys Park.

Red Bonnet Belles

The Red Bonnet Belles will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pamida to carpool to Bloomington for lunch at noon at McAlister's Deli.

Greene Lodge #577 F&AM

Greene Lodge #577 F&AM, Worthington, will meet for degree work Thursday. Eat at 6:15 p.m. and work at 7 p.m. Visiting brethren are welcome.

Linton-Stoctkon School Board

The Linton-Stockton School Board of Trustees will meet at 6 p.m. Aug. 18 in executive session and at 7 p.m. in regular session at the superintendent's office.

Switz City Waterworks

The Switz City Waterworks has rescheduled its hydrant flushing for Saturday.

Shakamak School Board

The Shakamak School Board will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. Thursday in the media center. An executive session is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday in the central office.

Writer's Group

The Linton Writer's Group will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Linton Library. Writers of all stages are welcome.

Greene County Council on Aging

The Greene County Council on Aging will hold its annual picnic at 5 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Worthington Senior Citizen Center. Bring a covered dish.

Scotland Festival

Solsberry Christian Church

to hold concert

The Mitchell Family of Robinson, Illinois will be in concert 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Solsberry Christian Church-- which is located one mile east of Solsberry on Old State Road 43. There will be a fellowship time following the concert. Everyone is invited for a great evening of gospel music.

Fiber Fanatics Spinning Group

The new Fiber Fanatics Spinning Group will meet at the Bloomfield Library from 6-8:30 p.m. Aug. 19 and then continue to meet the third Tuesday of each month thereafter. This group is for anyone that is interested in spinning fiber either with a spinning wheel or a drop spindle. Experienced spinners will be happy to help the beginner spinners. Blessed Hope School dedication

A dedication service for Blessed Hope's new school building is at 7 p.m. Aug. 24. The service will be conducted in the fellowship hall of the new building-- located on State Road 59 South of Jasonville.

UMWA retiree dinner

Book sale

Pregnancy Choices Benefit Concert

A number of contemporary Christian performers will give a concert to raise funds and awareness for Pregnancy Choices. The concert will be at 7 p.m. on Aug.19 at Linton First Christian Church, State Road 54 East. The concert is free and a love offering will be accepted. Home-Canning Workshop

A Home-Canning Workshop will be at 6 p.m. on Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. in the Sandborn First Christian Church kitchen. Karel Kirschner of Knox County Purdue Extension will present a hands-on workshop to teach the basics of home canning, featuring tomato salsa in a hot-water canning bath, and green beans in the pressure canner. This workshop is for anyone who's interested in learning how to safely preserve fruits and vegetables at home. There will be recipes and canning tips available, and participants will be able to see what supplies and equipment are recommended for home canning. Space is limited to 12 participants, the cost per person is $3 to cover supplies. Contact Peggy Taylor at 694-8499 to register (before Aug. 22) so that enough supplies for each participant can be arranged. The church is located at 118 North Anderson Street, Sandborn.

Links orientation

Links Theological University will hold orientation for new students at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at New Convenant Ministries located at 90 B St. NW in Linton.

Keller reunion

The Ernest and Eunice Keller family reunion will be Sunday at the east shelterhouse in Linton's Humphreys Park. Drinks and table service will be provided. Please bring an item for the auction to help cover expenses.

Greene County Democrat hog roast

The Greene County Democrat hog roast will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at the community building in Linton's Humphreys Park. Free to public, raffle and prizes.

Worthington Yard Sales

Worthington's "Around the Town" yard sale day will be Aug. 30 and the Worthington Lions Club is preparing a map of sale locations that will be distributed on the day of the sale. To include a location before the deadline on Aug. 21, call 875-3209 or 875-3746.

Greene County Historical Society

The Greene County Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Linton Library program room. Kelly Foglesong will be the guest speaker. He will show pictures of penny postcards on the overhead screen. Penny postcards preserve local history from the turn of the century. Members and guests are asked to bring any penny postcards for discussion.

Switz City Cemetery Association

The Switz City Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Switz City Fire Station. Public is invited.

William and Nora Cullison reunion

The William and Nora Cullison family reunion will be Aug. 24 at the north shelter house in the Bloomfield Park. Pitch-in dinner at noon.

Peltier reunion

The Peltier family reunion will be Aug. 31 at the FOP building on Park Road in Linton. Pitch-in dinner at 1 p.m. with table service provided.

Turning Point Education Center

Kids Count registration

Kids Count, a not for profit organization, is accepting registration for before and after school care for all Eastern Greene students grades preschool - 6 and its pre-school program. Habitat taking applications

Greene County Habitat for Humanity is currently set to build a home in Linton. It is taking applications for those who are interested in the home. Applications can be picked up at Linton City Hall, the Linton Public Library; all Bloomfield State Bank locations. The deadline is Aug. 22.

Meet the Instruments

The Bloomfield Public Library and the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra are hosting "Meet the Instruments," a hands-on opportunity for children of all ages. Performers gather with their instruments to introduce young, potential players to percussion, wind, and stringed musical instruments. Children have the chance to hear the sounds, examine, and play the instruments Saturday from 1-2 p.m. Contact the Bloomfield Public Library for more information (384-4125).

Tax bills

The first installment is due Friday. Please allow four to five days for delivery. Payments can be made at the treasurer's office or mailed to: Greene County Treasurer, 1 E. Main St., Room 130. Bloomfield, Ind. 47424. You can also pay at any MainSource location. Credit and debit card payments may be paid on line at www.co.greene.in.us/treasurer. A 2.95 percent fee ($2 minimum) convenience fee will be charged for the transaction.

Little Mr. and Miss Scotland

The Scotland Festival is sponsoring a Little Mr. and Miss Scotland contest for boys and girls ages 3, 4 and 5. The child must be at least 3 years of age and not more than 5 years old on Aug. 31 to be eligible. Children will be judged in three categories: Appearance, personality and show and tell. Children's interviews will be Sept. 15 at the Old Hotel in Scotland. The winners will be announced at the Scotland Festival on Sept. 20. Bloomfield School calendars available

Calendars for the upcoming school year are available at Bloomfield Dairy Queen, Bloomfield State Bank, during school registration, open house or contact Sharon Toon at 384-4934. Wall calendars are $5 and pocket calendars are $4. Proceeds benefit the post prom.

Greene County Humane Society

The Greene County Humane Society is asking for "special donations" for the Bloomfield yard sale. GCHS is requesting specialty items such as: Crafts, gently used household/children items, and nic-nacs. No clothes, yard sale remnants or heavy furniture pieces will be accepted. Please bring items to the shelter located on CR 1375W, also called Atlas Road.

Grant funds available

Greene County Soil & Water Conservation district is redirecting Clean Water Indiana Grant Funds to provide assistance for sediment and nutrient flood damage projects not covered under Farm Service Agency or Natural Resource Conservation programs. Mosquito spraying in Switz City

Switz City Volunteer Fire Department

The Switz City Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a fundraising program to raise money for needed equipment. In the coming weeks all homes in the area will receive a request for a mail-in contribution. If you do not receive the fire department mailing, please call the station at 659-3540 for further details.

Women's group to meet

A women's group will be held at the Worthington Assembly of God at 9 :30 a.m. on Sundays during the summer. During the school season, the group will meet from 10 a.m. - noon on the fourth Tuesday of each month. All women are welcome.

Vendors wanted

The Linton Farmer's Market is looking for vendors to sell their homegrown produce. The market is open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the northeast corner of Humphreys Park. Contact Fran Abbott at city hall for applications at 847-7754.

GED testing

GED testing for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is given on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month at the Greene County Community Learning Center housed at White River Valley High School. Those wishing to take the exam must register in person, one week prior to the exam and present three pieces of ID including one photo ID. Cost of the exam is $60 which must be paid at time of registration. For more information contact 659-3862

Worthington Playground Fund

The staff members and students at White River Valley-Worthington Elementary School are raising funds to replace playground equipment in memory of former principal the late Larry Catron. Saron Church of Christ

Saron Church of Christ and St. Peter Catholic Church have combined their food pantries. The Linton Community Food Pantry is located at 440 E. St. NE (the former St. Peter Food Pantry). The hours are 1-5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. - noon on Saturdays. The St. Peter Thrift Shop will remain open at that location at the same hours.

Lyons Senior Citizens center

The Lyons Senior Citizens Center, 150 N. Jefferson St., now has wooden toy crafts for sale. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Lyons First Christian Church youth group meets at 6 p.m. on Mondays at the church's East Broad Street location.

Dugger Legion to meet

The Rexford Ballard American Legion Post 224 will meet the first and third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

Jasonville Senior center update

The Jasonville Senior Citizen Center, located at 145 S. Lawton, has opened a country store and gift shop. It will be open from 9 a.m.-noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All proceeds will benefit the senior center. For more information, call the center at 665-9882.

Wig bank

The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield. Narcotics Anonymous

Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m.

Bloomfield Food pantry

The Refuge Assembly of God food pantry will be open every Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. to assist those living in Bloomfield. To donate, please contact Trina at 384-8093 during the pantry's open hours.
