Bloomfield man involved in Interstate 64 crash in Illinois

Wednesday, August 6, 2008

Illinois State Police District 19 troopers investigated a traffic crash on Interstate 64 at milepost 94 Wednesday afternoon involving a passenger car and a semi tractor, flat-bed trailer driven by a Bloomfield man.

The preliminary crash investigation indicated that a gold 1992 Chrysler New Yorker, driven by a 19 year-old male, was traveling in the westbound passing lane on Interstate 64, when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center median into the eastbound traffic lanes, according to a report by WFIE-TV based in Evansville.

The passenger car then struck head-on an eastbound white 1999 Mack truck tractor, flat-bed trailer, driven by William D. Wright, 58, of Bloomfield, police said.

Wright was hauling for Rogers Trucking Company, of Indianapolis, according to Illinois authorities.

The impact of the crash forced the passenger car onto the south side of the I-64 eastbound traffic lanes and the truck tractor, flat-bed trailer came to rest in the median.

The 19-year-old male driver, who was not identified, received major injuries and was transported by Air Evac to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

Wright did not receive any apparent injuries in the 12:30 p.m. mishap.

The wreck remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.

:( Unfortunately, I know the person who was airlifted. Get well, and come back home soon.
