The Miner football parents will have a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13 in the Linton-Stockton High School auditeria.
All parents are encouraged to attend to help plan Thursday night meals and fund raisers.
Back to school fundraiser
The Linton FOP along with 180 Energy Drink is hosting the annual Back to School Fundraiser tournament. Proceeds will help benefit kids in need of school supplies for the upcoming school year.
Entry fee for the tournament is $150 plus one back to school item. Additional items and donations will be accepted.
Teams will consist of five females and five males.
A home run derby will be played and other awards will be given out.

Bloomfield Youth Football
The Bloomfield Youth Football League is set to start the 2008 football season.

Bloomfield Youth Football League is comprised of boys and girls from grades 2-8 in the surrounding area. Bloomfield has three different teams: 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8 grades.
Bloomfield is part of the Quad County Youth Football League. Youth football teams from eight area schools representing Greene, Martin, Owen, Monroe and Sullivan counties make-up the league. Bloomfield's home games are played just outside the gates of the Naval Surface Warfare Center on SR 558 near the town of Crane. Bloomfield practices Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Crane football field.
Bloomfield Youth Football League is a non-profit organization. All members and coaches volunteer their time and enthusiasm to support the local youth in this football program. We survive on fundraisers and donations.

Booster club meeting
There will be a meeting of the Bloomfield Booster Club at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 in the commons area.
This meeting is for current members as well as anyone that would like to join the booster club.

Fall league softball
The Linton Girls Softball Association is organizing their fall softball leagues.
The league is open to all girls ages 5-18. Out of county teams are welcome to join at a cost of $250 per team.
Sign-ups are set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9 and Saturday, Aug. 16 at Linton Sporting Goods.
An evening sign-up is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20 at the east shelter house at Linton City Park.
Cost per girl is $35 with a $10 charge for a second and $5 for a third girl per family.
All games will be played on Saturdays, starting Sept. 6 and running for six weeks.
Coaches are need for each age division, which including 5-8 Pee Wee, 9-12 Minors and 13-18 for Majors.

Golf tournament
The GOP Golf Invitational is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 23 at the Phil Harris Golf Course in Linton.
Awards will be given to the top three teams.
Also, awards for longest drive, closest to the pin and longest putt will be presented in both men's and women's divisions.
Registration begins at noon with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
An awards cookout will follow.

Co-ed league
The Shakamak Youth League will have an Adult Co-ed Softball Fall League starting Saturday, Aug. 23 in Jasonville.
The season will consist of a 12-game schedule and a tourney at the end of the season.
Formatting of teams will be five men and five women. Participants must be 16 years of age or older. Cost is $275 per team.

Fall leagues
The Shakamak Youth League will be having a fall league consisting of baseball, softball, and T-ball with games starting Saturday, Aug. 23.
Cost is $30 for the first child, $25 each for the 2nd and 3rd child in the same family, each additional after 3 children in the same family are free.
Registration dates are Saturday, August 2, 9, and 16 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Hanna Field in the upstairs meeting room. There will be NO late applications accepted.
Out of town teams are welcome to join the fall league at a cost of $240 per team.
Age groups are as follows: Rookie League Baseball (machine pitch) = 6-9 year olds, Major League Baseball = 9-12 year olds. T-ball = 3-5 year olds (boys and girls co-ed), Pee Wee Softball = 5-8 year olds, Minor League Softball = 9-12, and Major League Softball = 13-18.

WRV Open
The White River Valley Jr/Sr High School will once again host its annual golf tournament Saturday, Aug. 16 at the Phil Harris Golf Course in Linton.
All proceeds from this tournament will go to the WRV athletic department.
Cost is $30 for members and $50 for non-members.

Sandlot Baseball tryouts
Sandlot Baseball, a Greene-County based 11-and-under travel team, will conduct tryouts for the 2009 baseball season at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9 at the Worthington baseball diamonds.
Any child not turning 12 before May 1, 2009 is invited to attend.

Girls attending Shakamak Junior High and Elementary Schools Elementary girls will be having Basketball open gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays running through Thursday, Aug. 7.

Athletic physicals for Linton-Stockton athletes in incoming grades 6-12 will be given throughout the summer by Dr. Fred Ridge at reduced rate of $15.

Bass Tournaments at Shakamak
Shakamak State Park will be holding bass fishing tournaments throughout 2008 that are open to the public.
There will be open team jackpots. Cost is $25 per team per event.
There will be a 10-fish limit. Slot limit applies, including under 12 inches or over 15.
The next tournament is Friday, Aug. 22. Participants must register at Kickapoo ramp by 6:45 p.m. with competition set to begin at 7 p.m.
Other dates include Friday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 27.
The Sept. 27 event is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., with registration deadline of 7:45 a.m. The Sept. 12 event will start at 7 p.m. with a registration deadline of 6:45 p.m.
