One lane was opened shortly after 3 p.m.
According to Public Information Officer Sgt. Curt J. Durnil of the Indiana State Police in Bloomington, troopers on the scene reported shortly before 3 p.m. that traffic was backed up approximately 1/2 to one mile in both directions.
The ISP investigation revealed that a 1994 Buick four door, driven by Kathy Grubb, 33, of Solsberry, was stopped in eastbound traffic waiting to turn left onto County Road 1390. Soon after, Grubb's car was struck from the rear by a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Randy Stanger of Williams. That rear-end collision sent Grubb's Buick intothe westbound lanes of SR 45, colliding head-on with a 2003 Toyota SUV driven by Lisa McKamey of Bloomfield.
The chain reaction style crash continued as a fourth vehicle, a 2006 Pontiac four door, driven by Chad Miller, 24, of Cincinnati, Ohio also struck Grubb's vehicle, resulting in injuries and a total loss of Grubb's Buick and of Miller's Pontiac.
Injured and transported to the hospital for treatment were Grubb, Miller and Shawn T. Kovacic, 24 of Canton, OH -- a passenger in Miller's vehicle. No condition reports were immediately available.
The crash was investigated by Trooper Chris Fears. He was assisted by the Greene County EMS, the Van Buren Township Fire Department and the Greene County Sheriff's Department.
I Agree with the way I see it!
Here we go again maybe this paper should investigate news just a little better. This wreck happened in Greene county that is the only thing they got right ! It happened in Beech Creek township not Center township. Nice of them to mention Van Buren Twp. F. D. out of Monroe County and forget all about Eastern F. D. and Center F.D. It just amazes me GOOD JOB. NOT !!!
My husband has been rear-ended twice at this location, turning into our drive-way. The first time was june 06, the second was may 08. There have been other accidents at this location. If the weeds and trees were cut to where you could see a little bit around these blind curves in both directions, it would help. But who is responsible for cutting the weeds and trees? Is it the county, the highway dept. or REMC? I have a letter from INDOT stating that this is not a bad intersection. They need to try and pull out of our drive-way, or turn left onto county road 1390 from the east bound lane of 45. You can't see the west bound traffic, and fear the east bound traffic will hit you.
