Chief Jerrell: Rumor not true about LPD officers

Wednesday, July 30, 2008

Linton Police Chief Troy Jerrell says rumors that one or more LPD officers have been dismissed from the force are not true.

The rumor involved a picture that was being circulated online that was thought to be an LPD officer who was engaged in inappropriate conduct.

Jerrell acknowledged that the rumor was brought to his attention and he launched his own investigation to determine if a local officer was involved.

"The person in the picture is not an LPD officer. On first glance, it does resemble one of our officers but we've looked at this very closely and it is definitely not one of our officers. Whoever is in the picture is wearing a uniform but it is not one of our uniforms -- the buttons are different, the badge is different, the patch is different," said Jerrell.

According to Jerrell, the picture is probably a couple of years old.

The location of the picture has been said to be the local F.O.P. but Jerrell said that the siding on the building of the local F.O.P. is different from that in the picture.

"I would take this very seriously, but with the information I have, I do not believe one of our officers is involved," said Jerrell.
