Bloomfield school registration

Bloomfield Jr/Sr High School will hold registration for new and returning students on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 and Wednesday, August 6, 2008. Tuesday, August 5 hours will be noon-7:00p.m. with a breach from 5:00-5:30pm. Hours Wednesday, August 6 will be 9:00a.m.-2:30p.m. with a break 12:00-12:30p.m. Student information packets will be mailed prior to registration and completed forms should be returned at registration.

Bake Sale

The Hymera Independent Community Church will hold a bake sale fundraiser from 7 a.m. - noon Aug. 2 in front of the Ruritan's Building located on South Main Street in Hymera.

Hasler Family Reunion

The Casper and Catherine Hasler family reunion is Aug. 9 at the Mineral Community Building located at the Mineral United Methodist Church. Lunch will be at 12:30. Bread, meat and drinks will be furnished.

Linton Moose

The Linton Moose Lodge will host a fish and shrimp dinner at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Reed Family Reunion

The Edward G. Reed family reunion will be at noon Aug. 2 at the east side shelter house in Linton's Humphreys Park.

Lyons Senior Center

The Lyons Senior Center is having a breakfast and bake sale from 7:20 a.m. - ? July 26. Raffle ticket winners will also be awarded. For more information 659-3167.

Linton Lodge of Fraternal Order of Police

The Linton Lodge of Fraternal Order of Police #105 will be accepting applications for its annual Back to School Shopping Program. Applications can be picked up at any law enforcement agency in Greene County. Applications can also be downloaded at http://lintonpolice.com/fop.html. The program is for any child enrolled in a school in Greene County, from grade 1 to grade 8. The deadline for applications is August 4, 2008. It is important for applicants to have a valid phone number as selected applicants will be notified by phone when selected. This programs has been very successful in the past because of the generosity of the people of Greene County.

LSHS Class of '88 Reunion

Attention classmates (or their family members), Aug. 30 is fast approaching. Fall Registration at Learning Center

The Greene County Community Learning Center will hold registration for fall semester classes on Thursday, July 31 and Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008

from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. Students planning to enroll in courses offered by Ivy Tech Community College may also register on Thursday, Aug. 14 from 1-5 p.m. Courses are currently being offered for the fall semester on-site at the Community Learning Center from Vincennes University and Ivy Tech Community College. Additionally, short term non-credit professional development and enrichment courses will be offered by Ivy Tech's Center for Workforce Development and Indiana University's School of Continuing Studies. Vote online for your favorite bug

This summer the children and families at the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library created bugs in the "Bug Your Way to the Top" program. Contestants were given a sack with several items and challenged to add a few more items and design a bug. Go on-line and vote for your favorite bug today. Voting runs from July 23 - July 31. Scotland Cemetery Notice

In order to maintain the cemetery, all decorations on the ground at the Scotland Cemetery need to be removed by July 31.

WRV Jr./Sr High Registration

White River Valley Jr./Sr. High will conduct pre-enrollment Aug. 5-7. Counseling personnel will be on duty for the high school enrollment from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Aug. 5. with lunch from 11:30 a.m. - noon. On Aug. 6 the counselors will be on duty from noon to 7 p.m. with lunch from 4:30 - 5 p.m. Junior High enrollment will be Aug. 7 from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. with lunch from 11:30 a.m. - noon.

Mt. Moriah Revival/VBS

Tax bills

Greene County tax bills were mailed on Monday. The first installment will be due Aug. 15. Please allow four to five days for delivery. Payments can be made at the treasurer's office or mailed to: Greene County Treasurer, 1 E. Main St., Room 130. Bloomfield, Ind. 47424. You can also pay at any MainSource location. Credit and debit card payments may be paid on line at www.co.greene.in.us/treasurer. A 2.95 percent fee ($2 minimum) convenience fee will be charged for the transaction.

Ashcraft Family Reunion

The Jess Ashcraft family reunion will be July 26 at the Owensburg Park. Dinner at noon. Everyone is welcome.

Memory Makers Quilt Guild

The Memory Makers Guild of Greene County will meet at 6 p.m. on July 31 in the community room of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Library. Charles Allgood will be the host.

Free movie at Linton Library

The Friends of the Linton Library will show "Horton Hears a Who" at 2 p.m. on July 26 at the Linton Public Library. Admission and concessions are free.

Little Mr. and Miss Scotland

The Scotland Festival is sponsoring a Little Mr. and Miss Scotland contest for boys and girls ages 3, 4 and 5. The child must be at least 3 years of age and not more than 5 years old on Aug. 31 to be eligible. Children will be judged in three categories: Appearance, personality and show and tell. Children's interviews will be Sept. 15 at the Old Hotel in Scotland. The winners will be announced at the Scotland Festival on Sept. 20. Bloomfield School calendars available

Calendars for the upcoming school year are available at Bloomfield Dairy Queen, Bloomfield State Bank, during school registration, open house or contact Sharon Toon at 384-4934. Wall calendars are $5 and pocket calendars are $4. Proceeds benefit the post prom.

UMWA meeting

William Yockey, president of the Southwest Indiana UMWA Retirees, invites all UMWA members, retirees, wives and surviving spouses to a meeting at 9 a.m. on July 31 at the union hall in Boonville. Petitions will be on hand for signing. Discussion on President Roberts' upcoming visit to District 12, current legislation and health care issues will take place. VBS at Linton First Baptist Church

Red Cross Blood Drive

The Harvest Community Church will sponsor a blood drive from 2 - 6 p.m. on July 28. The church is located four miles south of Bloomfield on County Road 400 South.

Book Bag Workshop

The Bloomfield Public Library will host a duct tape book bag workshop at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 2. Gina Henderson will teach adults and teens to create their own duct tape book bags. Pre-registration is required. Visit the library or call (812) 384-4125 to register and pick up a supply list.

Switz City Full Gospel Church VBS

Greene County Humane Society

The Greene County Humane Society is asking for "special donations" for the Bloomfield yard sale. GCHS is requesting specialty items such as: Crafts, gently used household/children items, and nic-nacs. No clothes, yard sale remnants or heavy furniture pieces will be accepted. Please bring items to the shelter located on CR 1375W, also called Atlas Road.

Ice cream social

Mineral United Methodist Church will host a homemade ice cream social at 5 p.m. on July 26. The church is located in rural Bloomfield four miles southeast of State Road 231 on Furnace Road. Sandwiches, pies, cobblers, and ice cream will be served. Musical entertainment begins at 6 p.m. The event will take place rain or shine.

Southwest Indiana Pioneers reunion

The ninth annual Southwest Indiana Pioneers Reunion will be Aug. 2 from 11 am - 6 p.m. at the west shelterhouse at Humphreys Park in Linton. Activities will include a potluck dinner, beginning at noon; show and tell family history games and more. Iced tea will be provided. Bring family, neighbors, one or two covered dishes or desserts and table service as well as heirlooms, old stories, family history research, or pictures (old or new). The reunion celebrates the early pioneer families (and their descendants) of Jefferson, Cass, and Haddon Townships (Sullivan County), Stockton and Stafford townships (Greene County), and Widner, Vigo, and Washington Townships (Knox County).

Greene County Soil & Water Conservation district is redirecting Clean Water Indiana Grant Funds to provide assistance for sediment and nutrient flood damage projects not covered under Farm Service Agency or Natural Resource Conservation programs. LSES registration

Registration for Linton-Stockton Elementary School will be July 30 in front of the elementary office. Registration times are 8:30 a.m. - noon and 1- 6 p.m. All returning students must register for the new school year. The first day for non-kindergarten students is Aug. 12. Book rental fees for the 2008-09 school year are: Grade K - $40.00; Grade 1 - $84; Grade 2 - $69; Grade 3 - $77; Grade 4 - $71; Grade 5 - $69; Grade 6 - $63. Breakfast and lunch costs for students this school year will be as follows: Regular breakfast - $1; reduced breakfast - $.30; regular lunch - $2; and reduced lunch $.40. Pre-enrolled kindergarten students who have not been screened should report to room 5 in the elementary building at 1 p.m. on Aug. 11 for screening. Children entering kindergarten who are not pre-enrolled should call the school office at 847-6039. Kindergarten registration will be in the student's classroom Aug. 12. Parents are to go with their child to the student's classroom at 8:30 a.m. for registration. The first day for kindergarten students will be Aug. 13. Room lists will not be posted this year. They will instead by disclosed via e-mail or at the time of registration.

LSHS registration

Registration for Linton-Stockton High School students will be from 8:30 a.m. - noon and 1 p.m. - 6 p.m. on Aug. 4 in the high school media center. Staff will break for lunch from noon to 1 p.m. You may complete and/or change your demographic information on-line by logging into your Harmony account at www.lssc.k12.in. The remaining registration forms will be completed at the school when you register Aug. 4. The first day of school is Aug. 12.

Linton JH registration

Registration for Linton-Stockton Junior High will be July 30 from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1-6 p.m. in the new junior high media center. You may enroll online at www.lssc.k12.in.us ; under the junior high and complete your demographic information and print off your enrollment forms and complete them to expedite the enrollment process. The first day of classes for students will be Aug. 12.

Mathena Family Reunion

The Mathena family reunion will be at noon Saturday at the east shelterhouse at Humphreys Park in Linton. Drinks and meat will be furnished. Bring table service, covered dish and dessert.

Switz City Volunteer Fire Department

The Switz City Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a fundraising program to raise money for needed equipment. In the coming weeks all homes in the area will receive a request for a mail-in contribution. If you do not receive the fire department mailing, please call the station at 659-3540 for further details.

Women's group to meet

A women's group will be held at the Worthington Assembly of God at 9 :30 a.m. on Sundays during the summer. During the school season, the group will meet from 10 a.m. - noon on the fourth Tuesday of each month. All women are welcome.

Vendors wanted

The Linton Farmer's Market is looking for vendors to sell their homegrown produce. The market is open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the northeast corner of Humphreys Park. Contact Fran Abbott at city hall for applications at 847-7754.

GED testing

GED testing for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is given on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month at the Greene County Community Learning Center housed at White River Valley High School. Those wishing to take the exam must register in person, one week prior to the exam and present three pieces of ID including one photo ID. LHS Class of 1955, 1956 to gather

The Linton-Stockton High School classes of 1955 and 1956 will have a joint reunion Aug. 8 with a potluck picnic at the home of Shelby Padgett Meurer (Class of 1956). Activities will continue Aug. 9 with a breakfast at Stoll's Country Inn. On Aug. 10 the class members are invited to attend a local church service together. The fun-filled weekend is open to all graduates of the these two classes and anyone else who attended school with them. Worthington Playground Fund

The staff members and students at White River Valley-Worthington Elementary School are raising funds to replace playground equipment in memory of former principal the late Larry Catron. Saron Church of Christ and St. Peter Catholic Church have combined their food pantries. The Linton Community Food Pantry is located at 440 E. St. NE (the former St. Peter Food Pantry). The hours are 1-5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. - noon on Saturdays. The St. Peter Thrift Shop will remain open at that location at the same hours.

Greene County Soil and Water Conservation

Lyons Senior Citizens center

The Lyons Senior Citizens Center, 150 N. Jefferson St., now has wooden toy crafts for sale. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Lyons First Christian Church youth group meets at 6 p.m. on Mondays at the church's East Broad Street location.

Dugger Legion to meet

The Rexford Ballard American Legion Post 224 will meet the first and third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

Jasonville Senior center update

Wig bank

The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield. Narcotics Anonymous will meet Saturdays at 7 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church on State Road 54 East. There will be open discussion and all are welcome.

Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m.

Bloomfield Food pantry

The Refuge Assembly of God food pantry will be open every Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. to assist those living in Bloomfield. To donate, please contact Trina at 384-8093 during the pantry's open hours.
