Big Hose tournament

The fourth annual Big Hose Golf Tournament will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday August 2 at the Phil Harris Golf Course.

The format for this year's tournament is a 2-person, 27 hole tournament. Golfers will play a nine-hole scramble, nine-holes best ball and 9-holes alternate shot.

Teams will be flighted after the first nine holes and will play the remaining 18 holes in their flight.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top teams on each 9 holes in each flight, as well as overall.

Entry fee is $35 for members and $50 for non-members, which includes green fees and cart for 27 holes, as well as lunch.

Bloomfield tennis meeting

There will be a short meeting for boys in grades 9-12 interested in playing high school tennis this fall at Bloomfield High School at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 30 at the tennis courts.

Practice will start Monday Aug. 4 at 9 a.m. and at 6 p.m.

WRV Open

The White River Valley Jr/Sr High School will once again host its annual golf tournament Saturday, Aug. 16 at the Phil Harris Golf Course in Linton.

All proceeds from this tournament will go to the WRV athletic department.

Cost is $30 for members and $50 for non-members.

Sandlot Baseball tryouts

Sandlot Baseball, a Greene-County based 11-and-under travel team, will conduct tryouts for the 2008 baseball season at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9 at the Worthington baseball diamonds.

Any child not turning 12 before May 1, 2009 is invited to attend.

Linton to host tournament;

looking for two more teams

Linton will be hosting a 10-and-under All-Star baseball tournament July 31 to Aug. 3.

There are still two openings in the eight-team event. Every team is guaranteed four games.

Entry fee is $250.

End of summer coed tournament

180 Energy Drink will host an end of summer coed softball tournament August 9-10 at the Linton FOP Field.

Teams will consist of five females and five males.

Home run derby and awards will be given out.

Entry fee is $150 per team plus one gold dot softball.

Shakamak open gyms

Girls attending Shakamak Junior High and Elementary Schools Elementary girls will be having Basketball open gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting Tuesday, July 8 and running through Thursday, Aug. 7.

Times will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and the open gyms will either be in the high school or elementary gymnasiums.

Softball tourney

Linton Girls Softball will be hosting an 12-and-under tournament on July 25-27.

Both tournaments have an entry fee of $250.

Burris golf scramble

The third annual Bart Burris Memorial Golf Scramble will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2 at Stone Crest Golf Course in Bedford.

All proceeds will go to the Bart Burris Eastern Greene Football Scholarship.

Cost is $50 per person or $200 per team.

Linton-Stockton physicals

Athletic physicals for Linton-Stockton athletes in incoming grades 6-12 will be given throughout the summer by Dr. Fred Ridge at reduced rate of $15.

Please contact his office at 847-4481 to schedule an appointment.

Physical forms can be picked up at the Linton-Stockton High School office or can be downloaded from www.ihsaa.org.

Forms must be completed in order to be able to practice.

Bloomfield physicals July 30

Bloomfield High School athletic physicals will be given Wednesday, July 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. by Dr. Owen Batterton at the reduced rate of $15.

Daily World encourages

results to be submitted

The sports department of the Greene County Daily World encourages all area sports coaches to submit your results and photos.

First and last names of participants must be submitted.

Photos and identification and season information and game results can be send by e-mail to hargisbj@yahoo.com or tdavid@gcdailyworld.com. Please send information as the regular text of an e-mail and not as an attachment.

The information also can be faxed to (812) 847-9513.

The information mailed to Greene County Daily World, c/o sports department, 79 S. Main St., Linton, IN 47441 or they can be dropped off daily between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Bass Tournaments at Shakamak

Shakamak State Park will be holding bass fishing tournaments throughout 2008 that are open to the public.

There will be open team jackpots. Cost is $25 per team per event.

There will be a 10-fish limit. Slot limit applies, including under 12 inches or over 15.

The next tournament is Friday, Aug. 1. Participants must register at Kickapoo ramp by 6:45 p.m. with competition set to begin at 7 p.m.

Other dates include Friday, Aug. 22; Friday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 27.

The Sept. 27 event is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., with registration deadline of 7:45 a.m. The Friday events all begin at 7 p.m. with a registration deadline of 6:45 p.m.
