Memory Makers Quilt Guild

The Memory Makers Guild of Greene County will meet at 6 p.m. on July 31 in the community room of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Library. Charles Allgood will be the host.

Free movie at Linton Library

The Friends of the Linton Library will show "Horton Hears a Who" at 2 p.m. on July 26 at the Linton Public Library. Admission and concessions are free.

VBS at Switz City Baptist Church

Little Mr. and Miss Scotland

The Scotland Festival is sponsoring a Little Mr. and Miss Scotland contest for boys and girls ages 3, 4 and 5. The child must be at least 3 years of age and not more than 5 years old on Aug. 31 to be eligible. Children will be judged in three categories: Appearance, personality and show and tell. Children's interviews will be Sept. 15 at the Old Hotel in Scotland. The winners will be announced at the Scotland Festival on Sept. 20. Bloomfield School calendars available

Calendars for the upcoming school year are available at Bloomfield Dairy Queen, Bloomfield State Bank, during school registration, open house or contact Sharon Toon at 384-4934. Wall calendars are $5 and pocket calendars are $4. Proceeds benefit the post prom.

Shakamak School Board

The Shakamak School Board of Trustees will meet in special session at 6 p.m. on July 24 in the school media center.

UMWA meeting

Red Bonnet Belles

Red Cross Blood Drive

The Harvest Community Church will sponsor a blood drive from 2 - 6 p.m. on July 28. The church is located four miles south of Bloomfield on County Road 400 South.

Blanton family reunion

The Blanton family reunion will be July 20 at the west shelterhouse in Linton. Lunch will be at noon.

White River Valley junior parents

White River Valley High School junior parents will meet at 7 p.m. on July 21 in the high school cafeteria to discuss officers and prom.

Book Bag Workshop

Greene County Humane Society

The Greene County Humane Society is asking for "special donations" for the Bloomfield yard sale. GCHS is requesting specialty items such as: Crafts, gently used household/children items, and nic-nacs. No clothes, yard sale remnants or heavy furniture pieces will be accepted. Please bring items to the shelter located on CR 1375W, also called Atlas Road.

Poker run to benefit the troops

The Family Readiness Group for Indiana National Guard unit Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 151st Infantry 'The Avengers' -- based in Linton -- will conduct a benefit Poker Run to benefit the families of deployed troops now in Iraq. The event starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Linton Armory. Cost is $20. Registration starts at 10 a.m. For more information contact Sgt. Joseph Henry at 699-1835.

Ice cream social

Mineral United Methodist Church will host a homemade ice cream social at 5 p.m. on July 26. The church is located in rural Bloomfield four miles southeast of State Road 231 on Furnace Road. Sandwiches, pies, cobblers, and ice cream will be served. Musical entertainment begins at 6 p.m. The event will take place rain or shine.

Southwest Indiana Pioneers reunion

The ninth annual Southwest Indiana Pioneers Reunion will be Aug. 2 from 11 am - 6 p.m. at the west shelterhouse at Humphreys Park in Linton. Activities will include a potluck dinner, beginning at noon; show and tell family history games and more. Iced tea will be provided. Bring family, neighbors, one or two covered dishes or desserts and table service as well as heirlooms, old stories, family history research, or pictures (old or new). The reunion celebrates the early pioneer families (and their descendants) of Jefferson, Cass, and Haddon Townships (Sullivan County), Stockton and Stafford townships (Greene County), and Widner, Vigo, and Washington Townships (Knox County).

Johnson family reunion

Descendants of Hiarm and Lucinda Johnson will meet July 20 at the Odon Park. A meal will be served at 1 p.m. Meat and drinks will be furnished. Please bring an auction gift.

Buffet fundraiser

The Lewis Township Volunteer Fire Department will have a full buffet including salad and dessert from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Adults eat for $8 and kids 10 and under eat for $4.

Greene County Soil & Water Conservation district is redirecting Clean Water Indiana Grant Funds to provide assistance for sediment and nutrient flood damage projects not covered under Farm Service Agency or Natural Resource Conservation programs. LSES registration

Registration for Linton-Stockton Elementary School will be July 30 in front of the elementary office. Registration times are 8:30 a.m. - noon and 1- 6 p.m. All returning students must register for the new school year. The first day for non-kindergarten students is Aug. 12. Book rental fees for the 2008-09 school year are: Grade K - $40.00; Grade 1 - $84; Grade 2 - $69; Grade 3 - $77; Grade 4 - $71; Grade 5 - $69; Grade 6 - $63. Breakfast and lunch costs for students this school year will be as follows: Regular breakfast - $1; reduced breakfast - $.30; regular lunch - $2; and reduced lunch $.40. Pre-enrolled kindergarten students who have not been screened should report to room 5 in the elementary building at 1 p.m. on Aug. 11 for screening. Children entering kindergarten who are not pre-enrolled should call the school office at 847-6039. Kindergarten registration will be in the student's classroom Aug. 12. Parents are to go with their child to the student's classroom at 8:30 a.m. for registration. The first day for kindergarten students will be Aug. 13. Room lists will not be posted this year. They will instead by disclosed via e-mail or at the time of registration.

LSHS registration

Registration for Linton-Stockton High School students will be from 8:30 a.m. - noon and 1 p.m. - 6 p.m. on Aug. 4 in the high school media center. Staff will break for lunch from noon to 1 p.m. You may complete and/or change your demographic information on-line by logging into your Harmony account at www.lssc.k12.in. The remaining registration forms will be completed at the school when you register Aug. 4. The first day of school is Aug. 12.

Pearson-Love reunion

The Pearson-Love reunion will be July 20 at the Worthington Park. There will be a pitch-in dinner at 1 p.m., and a White elephant sale will be after dinner to help fund the reunion for next year. Bring an item from home that you would like to auction.

Linton JH registration

Registration for Linton-Stockton Junior High will be July 30 from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1-6 p.m. in the new junior high media center. You may enroll online at www.lssc.k12.in.us ; under the junior high and complete your demographic information and print off your enrollment forms and complete them to expedite the enrollment process. The first day of classes for students will be Aug. 12.

Summer hours at Linton Library

The Linton Public Library has begun its summer hours. The library is now open from 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday through Thursday. Friday and Saturday closing hours stay the same as regularly scheduled, but open at 9:30.

Mosquito spraying

The Bloomfield Street Department will spray for mosquitos on Wednesdays at approximately 8 or 8:30 p.m.

Switz City Volunteer Fire Department

The Switz City Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a fundraising program to raise money for needed equipment. In the coming weeks all homes in the area will receive a request for a mail-in contribution. If you do not receive the fire department mailing, please call the station at 659-3540 for further information.

Women's group to meet

A women's group will be held at the Worthington Assembly of God at 9 :30 a.m. on Sundays during the summer. During the school season, the group will meet from 10 a.m. - noon on the fourth Tuesday of each month. All women are welcome.

Vendors wanted

The Linton Farmer's Market is looking for vendors to sell their homegrown produce. The market is open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the northeast corner of Humphreys Park. Contact Fran Abbott at city hall for applications at 847-7754.

Sign up for Linton Community Share at Linton City Hall on Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Lyons Senior Center Monday-Friday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Worthington Senior Center Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. May's regular menu is $16.

GED testing

GED testing for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is given on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month at the Greene County Community Learning Center housed at White River Valley High School. Those wishing to take the exam must register in person, one week prior to the exam and present three pieces of ID including one photo ID. Cost of the exam is $60 which must be paid at time of registration. For more information contact 659-3862

LHS Class of 1955, 1956 to gather

The Linton-Stockton High School classes of 1955 and 1956 will have a joint reunion Aug. 8 with a potluck picnic at the home of Shelby Padgett Meurer (Class of 1956). Activities will continue Aug. 9 with a breakfast at Stoll's Country Inn. On Aug. 10 the class members are invited to attend a local church service together. The fun-filled weekend is open to all graduates of the these two classes and anyone else who attended school with them. Pleasant Grove Church VBS

Plans are under way for vacation bible school at Pleasant Grove Church of Christ located south and east of Linton. VBS will be held on July 23, 24, and 25, 2008. The chosen theme is "Power up with Jesus".

Worthington Playground Fund

The staff members and students at White River Valley-Worthington Elementary School are raising funds to replace playground equipment in memory of former principal the late Larry Catron. Donations of all amounts are being accepted and engraved bricks are being sold. Call 875-3839 for more information.

Saron Church of Christ

Saron Church of Christ and St. Peter Catholic Church have combined their food pantries. The Linton Community Food Pantry is located at 440 E. St. NE (the former St. Peter Food Pantry). The hours are 1-5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. - noon on Saturdays. The St. Peter Thrift Shop will remain open at that location at the same hours.

Greene County Soil and Water Conservation

Lyons Senior Citizens center

The Lyons Senior Citizens Center, 150 N. Jefferson St., now has wooden toy crafts for sale. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Lyons First Christian Church youth group meets at 6 p.m. on Mondays at the church's East Broad Street location.

Dugger Legion to meet

The Rexford Ballard American Legion Post 224 will meet the first and third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

Jasonville Senior center update

The Jasonville Senior Citizen Center, located at 145 S. Lawton, has opened a country store and gift shop. It will be open from 9 a.m.-noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All proceeds will benefit the senior center. For more information, call the center at 665-9882.

Wig bank

The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield. Narcotics Anonymous

Narcotics Anonymous will meet Saturdays at 7 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church on State Road 54 East. There will be open discussion and all are welcome.

Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m.

Bloomfield Food pantry

The Refuge Assembly of God food pantry will be open every Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. to assist those living in Bloomfield. To donate, please contact Trina at 384-8093 during the pantry's open hours.
