Born April 12, 1948, in Monroe County, he was the son of Herschell and Elsie (Sexton) Southern.
He was a truck driver for IMI.
He attended Sherwood Oaks Christian Church and was a member of Bloomington Moose Lodge 1081.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Southern; three daughters, Chris Taylor, Trish McFarland and Sherry Covey, all of Bloomington; seven grandchildren, Crystal Minnick, Amber Harris and Cody Barber, all of Solsberry, and Daniel Hoard, Tyler DeMoss, Dakota Elsmore and Alyssa Deckard, all of Bloomington; five great-grandchildren, Garrett Minnick, Mason Minnick, Carly Boswell and Caden Boswell, all of Solsberry, and Kaylee Barber of Bloomington; and two sisters, Charlotte Sowders of Smithville and Marcella Deckard of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jim Southern and Rodney Southern; and one step-son, James Barber.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Greene and Harrell Chapel in Bloomington with Alan Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Smithville Cemetery.
