Eastern Greene board to meet
The Eastern Greene School Board will hold a special meeting Monday at 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria for the purpose of approving a contract with a new superintendent. The meeting is open to the public.

Dailey & Vincent, a new bluegrass duo on Rounder Records, bring their blend of bluegrass, country and gospel music to the Simon J. LSES registration
Registration for Linton-Stockton Elementary School will be July 30 in front of the elementary office. Registration times are 8:30 a.m. - noon and 1- 6 p.m. All returning students must register for the new school year. The first day for non-kindergarten students is Aug. 12. Book rental fees for the 2008-09 school year are: Grade K - $40.00; Grade 1 - $84; Grade 2 - $69; Grade 3 - $77; Grade 4 - $71; Grade 5 - $69; Grade 6 - $63. Breakfast and lunch costs for students this school year will be as follows: Regular breakfast - $1; reduced breakfast - $.30; regular lunch - $2; and reduced lunch $.40. Pre-enrolled kindergarten students who have not been screened should report to room 5 in the elementary building at 1 p.m. on Aug. 11 for screening. Children entering kindergarten who are not pre-enrolled should call the school office at 847-6039. Kindergarten registration will be in the student's classroom Aug. 12. Parents are to go with their child to the student's classroom at 8:30 a.m. for registration. The first day for kindergarten students will be Aug. 13. Room lists will not be posted this year. Parkfest in Bloomfield
The Central Greene County Ministerial Association will host its fourth annual Parkfest in the south shelter of Bloomfield Park on Sunday. Set-up will begin at 12:30 p.m. and lunch will be served at 1 p.m. The CGCMA will be providing the meat for the event -- a hog roast -- and the various CGCMA churches are pitching-in salads and veggies and desserts and beverages to help make the meal complete. Fall classes at Learning Center
The first registration for fall classes at the Greene County Communty Learning Center will be July 15 from 1-7 p.m. Registrations will be accepted for both Ivy Tech State College and Vincennes University fall classes at the Greene County Community Learning Center, located in White River Valley High School. Classes meet one evening a week. Ivy Tech fall classes begin Aug. 25, and VU begins Aug. 18. If you need to take a placement test you may do so at the Learning Center. Free Screening Echocardiograms
Free diagnostic screening echocardiograms will be offered to local incoming freshmen or any other high school student in the county or in Dugger that has not received one in the past. The screening is scheduled from 2-7 p.m. on July 11 on the second floor of the Greene County General Hospital. A copy of the required consent form can be picked up at the Greene County Daily World, Greene County Ambulance Office of the Hospital Administrator's Office.

2008 parade on DVD
Copies of the 2008 Freedom Festival Parade will be available on DVD. Linton-Stockton class of 1968
The Linton-Stockton High School class of 1968 will have its 40-year class reunion July 5 at the Old Bank Restaurant. There will be a meet and greet social hour starting at 6 p.m. with hours 'dourves, followed by a class picture around 7 p.m. A buffet meal will follow the class picture. Summer hours at Linton Library
The Linton Public Library has begun its summer hours. The library is now open from 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday through Thursday. Friday and Saturday closing hours stay the same as regularly scheduled, but open at 9:30.

Switz City Volunteer Fire Department

GED testing
GED testing for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is given on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month at the Greene County Community Learning Center housed at White River Valley High School. Those wishing to take the exam must register in person, one week prior to the exam and present three pieces of ID including one photo ID. The Linton-Stockton High School classes of 1955 and 1956 will have a joint reunion Aug. 8 with a potluck picnic at the home of Shelby Padgett Meurer (Class of 1956). Plans are under way for vacation bible school at Pleasant Grove Church of Christ located south and east of Linton. VBS will be held on July 23, 24, and 25, 2008. The chosen theme is "Power up with Jesus".
Worthington Playground Fund
