(Updated with new information) Bomb threat at Linton Wal-Mart

Thursday, July 3, 2008
A anonymous bomb threat called into the Linton Wal-Mart store between 4 and 4:40 a.m. on Thursday caused the store to be closed for several hours while police searched the premises.

Around noon, Chief Troy Jerrell of the Linton Police Department announced the sweep of the store had been completed and no devices were found.

"The store will remain closed for approximately another hour, until around 1 p.m. today (Thursday), to give management time to call their employees back in to work before customers start arriving again. Many of their employees that were scheduled to work had gone home while the search was going on," said Jerrell.

An unknown caller called in the threat. Jerrell said K-9 and bomb squad units from Crane were called in early to search the store. Around 9 a.m., Jerrell reported they were about halfway through their inspection of the building. Around noon, he said they were finished, had not found anything and were leaving the scene.

Jerrell said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

"We're taking this very seriously. Det. Duane Collenbaugh and store officials are reviewing the tape of the call and they are following up on information they've received," said Jerrell.

The LPD asks that anyone with any information about this incident should call Greene County Crime Stoppers at 847-5463.

I am really mad about the threat because i have two family members that work at wal-mart n that was very scary to know someone could have hurt or killed them.i hope the person is caught and spends some good time in jail.

Don't fret, miner, Some peopel feels better about themselves when they try to point out meaningless things about another. Sorry for Walmart, but hopefully people spent their money this morning at all the mom and pop businesses in town. Sometimes local is better than cheap.

I hope the person who called this in is caught and gets to spend some time in jail thinking about what they have done. I feel sorry for the people, especially the elderly, who need their prescriptions filled prior to the holiday.

A few weeks ago the same thing happened at the Bloomington Wal-Mart.
