Tuesday, July 1, 2008

CHAMPAIGN, ILL. -- An autopsy conducted on a 3-year-old Linton showed he died as the result of drowning on Monday afternoon, according to Champaign County (Ill.) Coroner Duane Northrup.

Wyatt Daniel DeJesus, Route 1, Linton, was pronounced dead at 1:16 p.m. (CST) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Ill.

Champaign police say nothing suspicious is suspected.

"No foul is suspected. It is an unfortunate accident and our condolences go out to the family," Rene Dunn, assistant to the chief of police in Champaign told the Greene County Daily World on Tuesday afternoon. "Unless new information surfaces, this investigation is considered closed."

The Greene County boy, who was visiting an unnamed relative in the central Illinois town, was transported to the hospital from an address at the 4306 block of Brittany Trail Drive in Champaign. Firefighters responded to the home at 12:34 p.m. (CST) after child was reported in a swimming pool.

An autopsy was conducted Tuesday morning in Bloomington, Ill.

"Toxicology tests are pending and an inquest may be scheduled at a later date," Northrup added.

Funeral arrangements are pending at McClanahan-Lee Funeral Home in Jasonville.
