Friends plan benefit for injured teen

In support of rural Worthington boy injured last week in a tractor wreck with a semi-truck, a group of his young friends is inviting everyone to a bake sale combined with a yard sale they're planning.

The event to benefit Jordan Murdock is set for Saturday in the parking lot of the Worthington Assembly of God on State Road 67 -- just south of the Country Market.

Their theme seems to be "A Country Boy Can Survive!"

Murdock, who is 13, was injured in an accident on State Road 67 north of Worthington on June 25. He was driving a John Deere tractor which was hit by a semi-truck. He was transported from the scene by an Air-Evac helicopter to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis. Murdock remains in Riley where he was expected to undergo surgery on Tuesday afternoon.

Besides selling yard sale and bake sale items, the group will be taking orders for tee-shirts they've designed in Jordan's honor - the shirts will be green with yellow lettering and the front will say "Jordan Murdock" in a John Deere style. The back will say "A country boy can survive." The shirts will cost $15 each.

The shirts were designed by two of his classmates, Shadow Zygai and Megan Rose, who are also serving as the leaders of the "Crew" organizing Saturday's events.

The "Crew" plans to set aside some of the proceeds from the bake sale, yard sale and tee-shirts to eventually throw a welcome home party for Murdock - all the rest will be given to Murdock's parents, John and Holly.

Members of the "Crew" are cleaning out their closets and gathering up old toys to sell at the yard sale but they would welcome donations of both yard sale and bake sale items from the public.

Donations will be accepted in the church parking lot starting at 7 a.m.

The sale starts at 9 a.m.

Besides manning the sale with the help of parents, some members of the "Crew" are also planning to sacrifice themselves as targets for water balloons to be thrown at them in exchange for a donation to the cause.

For anyone who would like to follow Murdock's recovery progress, the family has established a "Caring Bridge" website - a place where the family can post updates and visitors can send a message to Jordan or the Murdock family by signing a guest book.

Family members are able to read these notes to him and say these messages of encouragement have helped to brighten his days.
