Community Outreach

A Community Outreach will be held from 5-9 p.m. June 28 on Main Street in Jasonville. July 12 is the rain date. The Street Warriors sponsored-event includes live gospel music, free food and more. Public is welcome. Street Warriors

Linton Volleyball camp

Sign ups for volleyball camp for L-S students in grades 3-9 will be from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. June 14 at Linton Sporting Goods.

Bloomfield NARFE

The Bloomfield Active and Retired Federal Employees will meet Tuesday at Stoll's in Linton. Lunch at 11:30 a.m. meeting at 12:30 p.m.

Coal City Church of Christ retreat

The Coal City Church of Christ is holding camp retreat today, Saturday and Sunday. The event kicks off with a pitch-in supper at 6 p.m. today

Ashcraft reunion

The Ashcraft family reunion will be at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at the Oddfellow Hall in Bloomfield. Carry-in lunch.

Larry Ordner to visit

U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar announced today that Larry Ordner from his southern office will be in Greene County June 11. Larry Ordner will be available to meet individually with area residents who may be experiencing problems with the federal government or have an opinion to express. He will be available from 2-3 pm at the Linton City Hall.

Newberry Masonic Lodge # 166

The Newberry Masonic Lodge #166 will have hold an EA degree meeting June 10. Dinner at 6 p.m. and work at 7 p.m.

Scotland Community Yard Sale

The Scotland Community Yard Sale will be from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. on June 14. The event includes 13 yard sales. Maps will be available at the fire station. Event also includes breakfast at the fire station from 7 - 10 a.m., a bake sale and the Scotland Full Gospel Church serving food at fellowship hall.

Eastern Greene Schools will honor the retirement of Becky Noel and Janice Quimby at 7 p.m. June 9 at the high school library,

Summer hours at Linton Library

The Linton Public Library has begun it's summer hours. The library is now open from 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Friday and Saturday closing hours stay the same as regularly scheduled, but open at 9:30.

VBS at Bloomfield First Baptist

Bloomfield First Baptist Church will hold VBS from 6 - 8:40 p.m. June 29 - July 3 at the Bloomfield First Baptist Church located at 500 Lincoln Drive. VBS kick-off on June 29 will feature Professor Steve's Amazing World of Science program emphasizing Bible lessons and spectacular science experiments. Pre-registration is Sunday at 10:20 a.m. Registration on June 29 at 5:30 p.m.

Hendricksville Area Association will meet at 7 p.m. June 9 at the community building.

Worthington VFW Post 7117

The Worthington Post will host an open house alumni all-day event for graduates of Worthington, Switz City, L & M and White River Valley June 14. Theme is sock hop. Lunch from noon - 2 p.m. The shelterhouse will be open all day with snacks and food in the evening and a deejay will entertain from 8 p.m. - midnight with music from the '50s-'70s. Everyone welcome.

Area woodworkers will meet at 7 p.m. June 9 at the Herb Stough residence.

Lewis Township Fire fundraiser

A full buffet fundraiser will be from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Lewis Township Fire Department in Coalmont.

Moose Lodge

The Moose Lodge will have a dance from 8- 11:30 p.m. Saturday featuring the Detasslers. Open house for membership drive. The public is invited.

Hardisty reunion

A reunion for the descendants of Richard and Sarah Imhoff Hardisty will be Sunday at the Oliphant shelterhouse in the Bloomfield Park. Lunch at noon.

Basket bingo

A basket bingo will be held today at the Lyons Community building. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo starts at 6 :30 p.m. Fifteen games for $10 and $5 for additional card. Supports the breast cancer three day 60 mile walk.

Sausage gravy and biscuit breakfast

A sausage gravy and biscuit breakfast will be held today from 7-9:30 a.m. at the Jasonville Senior Citizen Center.

Church rummage sale

The Lighthouse Church of God will hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. June 5-7 at Tangles Styling and Tan located at 310 NE A St. in Linton. Drop off donations by Wednesday at Tangles or call Linda at 847-4567. Car wash to be held on June 7 at the parking lot.

Open Pleasure Horse Show

The Open Pleasure Horse Show will be at 9 a.m. June 14 at the Monroe County Saddle Club. The event is sponsored by the Greene County Horse Council and features 45 classes. Bruce Borders in concert

The Center for Women's Ministries is sponsoring a concert given by Bruce Borders at 7 p.m. June 13 at the Wabash Park Campground indoor pavilion in Clay City. Scotland Cemetery

The Scotland Cemetery meeting is at 7 p.m. June 9 in the chapel cemetery.

Fairview Cemetery

June 8 is the deadline to have flowers on graves at the Fairview Cemetery in Linton. Those allowed after the deadline will be saddle and shepherd hooks that are attached to the foundation. Other will be taken off and can be picked up at the custodian house if wanted.

Shakamak School Board

The MSD of Shakamak School Board will meet in executive session at 5 p.m. on June 10, 12, 17, 19 in the central office conference room.

Habitat for Humanity

Dedication of the Greene County Habitat for Humanity House in Jasonville will be at 2 p.m. on June 8. (The house is located behind the ball-fields).

VBS for four churches

Four churches are hosting God's Big Backyard VBS June 23-26 from 9-11:30 a.m. every morning at First United Methodist Church. Daily registration is 8:30-9 a.m. 3 year olds (by June 1 and potty trained) through those entering 6th grade are welcome. There will be a musical program on Thursday at 11:30 for the entire family to enjoy followed by a cook-out for all! Please bring a plain T-shirt, and change (offering) to fill baby bottles for the Pregnancy Choices center. You may register at the door or pre-register through Pastor Erica Roth at Saron church. Mosquito Spraying

The Bloomfield Street Department will spray for mosquitos on Wednesdays at approximately 8 or 8:30 p.m.

Pleasant Grove Cemetery Association

Families are reminded that floral arrangements which are on the ground should be removed by June 8. Decorations left beyond this date will be removed.

Switz City Fire Department

The Switz City Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring the annual community yard sale on June 14. The fire department will be serving breakfast starting at 6:30 a.m. and lunch at 10:30 a.m. We appreciate all the support that we receive from the community.

Switz City Volunteer Fire Department

The Switz City Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a fund raising program to raise money for needed equipment. In the coming weeks all homes in the area will receive a request for a mail in contribution. If you do not receive the fire department mailing, please call the station at 659-3540 for further details.

Women's group

A women's group will be held at the Worthington Assembly of God at 9 :30 a.m. on Sundays during the summer. During the school season, the group will meet from 10 a.m. - noon on the fourth Tuesday of each month. All women are welcome.

Open house for Morris Hudson

There will be an open house for Morris Hudson on Saturday from 1-4 p.m. at the Owensburg Fire Station. No gifts please.

LSHS Class of 1972

The Linton-Stockton High School class of 1972 will host its annual pitch-in at noon July 5 at The Eight Ball located at 176 S. Main St. in Linton. Lyons Class of 1958

The Lyons High School Class of 1958 will host its 50th class reunion at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Lyons Community Building. Classmates and friends from other Lyons High School classes are welcome.

Applications available for Miss Greene County contest

The 2008 Miss Greene County queen contest will be held on June 21 and applications may be picked up at the Extension Office. Applications will need to be turned back in by June 14. The queen will reign over the Greene County 4-H Fair, slated for July 12-19. She will also complete in the Miss Indiana State Fair Pageant in August. Kid Fun Day

Car seat and fire safety, along with face painting and fun, will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Movie Gallery parking lot in Linton. Officials from the Linton police and fire departments will be in attendance.

Kids Count fundraiser

A Kids Count fundraiser -- Hot Wheels 2008 (Truck Touch) -- will be June 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Eastern Greene Middle School lower parking lot. Admission is $2, and children under 1 free. All proceeds benefit Kids Count. Children can see, touch and explore their favorite vehicles like fire trucks, construction equipment and anything that moves. 2008 Bloomfield School Alumni Reunion

The 41st annual Bloomfield School Alumni Reunion will be on June 14 at the BHS cafeteria. Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. and will be catered buffet style. 1998 WRV class reunion

GED testing

GED testing for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is given on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month at the Greene County Community Learning Center housed at White River Valley High School. Those wishing to take the exam must register in person, one week prior to the exam and present three pieces of ID including one photo ID. Cost of the exam is $60 which must be paid at time of registration. The next exam will be given May 13 and 14. For more information contact 659-3862

LHS Class of 1955, 1956 to gather

The Linton-Stockton High School classes of 1955 and 1956 will have a joint reunion Aug. 8 with a potluck picnic at the home of Shelby Padgett Meurer (Class of 1956). Activities will continue Aug. 9 with a breakfast at Stoll's Country Inn. On Aug. 10 the class members are invited to attend a local church service together. The fun-filled weekend is open to all graduates of the these two classes and anyone else who attended school with them. Greene County Humane Society

The Greene County Humane Society is asking for donations of small, square bales of good grass hay for three nearly-starved horses which were rescued last week. These are very thin, needy horses. LSHS Class of 1988

The Linton-Stockton High School Class of 1988 is currently making preparations for its upcoming 20-year class reunion. Invitations will be mailed sometime in April, however help is still needed to update the classmate contact list. Pleasant Grove Church VBS

Plans are underway for vacation bible school at Pleasant Grove Church of Christ located south and east of Linton. VBS will be held on July 23, 24, and 25, 2008. The chosen theme is "Power up with Jesus".

Worthington Playground Fund

The staff members and students at White River Valley-Worthington Elementary School are raising funds to replace playground equipment in memory of former principal the late Larry Catron. Saron Church of Christ

Saron Church of Christ and St. Peter Catholic Church have combined their food pantries. The Linton Community Food Pantry is located at 440 E. St. NE (the former St. Peter Food Pantry). The hours are 1-5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. - noon on Saturdays. The St. Peter Thrift Shop will remain open at that location at the same hours.

Greene County Soil and Water Conservation

Solsberry Church coat giveaway

The Solsberry Christian Church VBS students raised money to give fans away during the warm weather and are now in the process of a cold weather coat giveaway. Dugger Legion to meet

Jasonville Senior center update

The Jasonville Senior Citizen Center, located at 145 S. Lawton, has opened a country store and gift shop. It will be open from 9 a.m.-noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All proceeds will benefit the senior center. For more information, call the center at 665-9882.

Wig bank

The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield. Narcotics Anonymous

Narcotics Anonymous will meet Saturdays at 7 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church on State Road 54 East. There will be open discussion and all are welcome.

Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m.

Bloomfield Food pantry

The Refuge Assembly of God food pantry will be open every Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. to assist those living in Bloomfield. To donate, please contact Trina at 384-8093 during the pantry's open hours.
