Wilbur Wayne "Mac" McCollister

Wilbur Wayne "Mac" McCollister, 84, Hahira, Ga., passed away May 26, 2008, at Valdosta (Ga.) Hospital.

Born Aug. 18, 1923 in Brazil, he was the son of Ora Fred and Iva Opal McCollister.

He was a resident of Jacksonville, Fla., for more than 50 years, but had moved to Hahira, Ga., three months prior to his death to be near his only son, Daryl.

He was a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his son, Daryl Wayne McCollister; brother Don H. McCollister, Brazil; and nephews, Keith McCollister of Linton and Jack, Dustin and Nick McCollister, all of Terre Haute.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, brother Ora; his wife, Dr. Nina (Hall) McCollister, brother and sister-in-law, Ora and Nova McCollister; and a nephew, Terry McCollister.

Private memorial services are pending and will be held in Jacksonville at a later date.

Cremation was chosen and Martin McLane Funeral Home, 2215 N. Paterson St., Valdosta, Ga., is handling arrangements.
